  1. If that is the case it's interesting to think how long they were left undisturbed. The coin looks to be a good grade. It might have just been left and then rediscovered several years later.
  2. I don't think I am brave enough to answer that question
  3. I have never considered myself as much of a collector, over the years I have toyed with the idea of collecting something but then thought what is the point, whatever it was it would sit in a cupboard gathering dust and being forgotten about. Coins for me are a little different, I am not collecting them so that I can show them off, its purely for my own pleasure. I enjoy a Sunday afternoon with a cup of tea and no one bothering me with my modest collection in front of me. I will pick one at random and give it a good hard looking at under a loupe. I like the way the light shine across the surface and shows of the toning or I may notice something that I missed previously. I guess what I am saying is that its something just for me and no one else and I don't have to try and convince anyone otherwise. I do get a satisfaction from buying them and looking for ones that I don't already have and of course who does not love an upgrade This forum also plays a big part in the process, I think without it I would have probably gone off the boil.
  4. Mick, To me that is a cracking coin. Enjoy it for what it it is, dipped or undipped it's still a thing of beauty. Ian
  5. They made me smile at the time ?
  6. Yes Pete, but I have got a second chance with a very nice lady? This time I intend to not be a silly boy and go through all that again. it seems so far that my only bad habit is coin collecting and having virtual conversations on a forum. she seems okay with that one?
  7. Oh lets not even talk about bad habits. I am sure my ex wife could fill a book about mine. If only I was collecting coins at that time, it might have kept me out of all sorts of compromising situations
  8. Nothing to apologies for Matt. I am aware that there is software that will do the sniping for you, I figure if someone wants it that badly then they can have it and I will get the next one. My method works for me and stops me from getting carried away with last minute panic bidding. A lesson it took me a while to learn. Like most of us on here I have probably paid too much for some coins but I have also been lucky and picked up a few gems at a good price. Its all swings and roundabouts and as long as at the end of the day I am happy with what I have bought thats the main thing
  9. If we are talking about ebay tactics. I work out my upper limit that I would pay for something. I do this by checking price from whatever price guide I have to hand, I have also started looking at auction and dealers sites. I then make the bid normally a few hours ahead of the end time, then I turn off eBay and wait for the email to tell me if I have one or lost. This may not work for everyone and I really cannot be bothered with snip bidding. I have tried watching the bidding but all that does is make me make impulse bid higher than I should. I seem to get around 70% of the coins I bid on and the ones I don't get I am not worried about as there will be another one along at some point.
  10. There is a 1946 Threepence on Mark Rasmussen's site. Ref 28/528 http://www.rascoins.com/stock.cfm?from=261&heading=&do=colour&colour=Copper&mainheading=&collectionname=&
  11. Do you have a before and after of the obverse?

    1944 &1946 Penny

Pete, The 44 & 46 have arrived and very pleased with both. The tone on the 44 is just the way I like them with a nice graduation of colour. The dot penny is also a good one, glad that I got in there early before they were snapped up. Ian
  13. I think if they were trying to deface the King's face they would have done a better job on it rather than a few scratches.
  14. I will second that
  15. Very nice, what was it graded at?
  16. Hi Zakkil, Hello and welcome. As Nordle has said grab the books and put some pictures on. All the best Ian
  17. Come on Pete, I have to know what BOBO is? Is it Rang Tang but worse?
  18. They are cheap, so I store everything in them. The good the bad and the Rang Tang
  19. Yes indeed.
  20. Pleased to say I am having no problems whatsoever. Strange how its only affecting some and not others.
  21. The bottom obverse but the top reverse for me. The detail in the reverse looks sharper, horse who I believe was called Bayard, the dragon (don't know his name) all look crisper.
  22. They don't seem to be showing for me
  23. Difficult for me to tell, but if I had to choose I would go for the bottom one. No edge knocks and fewer marks on the fields. The obverse looks better than the reverse. But as for grade, no idea on this type of coin.
  24. The florin has, but not the halfcrown.
