  1. Yes it is what people refer to as a blocked 2, partially blocked anyway. Nice catch.
  2. Terry am totally starting from scratch. I can identify the E variety easily with the long teeth a major give away. However, still trying to get the F and G sorted out. If I am right so far I am finding the E the least common and think the G the most common but not 100% sure if I am getting the F & G right each time. I am going to persevere and see what I find. I will post pics and conclusions once I am happy I have things right.
  3. Thanks Terry, seems to be lots of differences, all of which are very small. Makes it very hard to discern the different varieties after reading your comments it makes just that little more complex. I definitely have found more than 2 size of teeth on the wide rim version. Will revisit the coins and try and keep a more uniform image set and see what I find. Thanks Brian
  4. A Slightly more standard coin. The teeth are smaller again in relationship to the rim
  5. The rims showing the teeth.
  6. Here are a couple. I can't seem to find the ones with the thinner rims that I put to the side. I think they would be variant F. These I think could be E & G. Will put close ups of the rim on next post.
  7. Thanks Dave. Will give it another go. May take some pics and post them when I think I have cracked it. Is it rev G that is the hardest to find? Thanks Brian
  8. Hi All Looking for a little advice. I have started putting all my half penny coins into order and also sorting through the variants. I have about 30 + of 1958 but am struggling to assign the 3 variants. Are there any easy ways of descerning the variants? The first variant is quite easy to find its the F & G that I am find more trouble with. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all Brian
  9. Me too. Seems like this area is last again!!!!!!
  10. Hi Ian, I managed to get a bit off with acetone but think someone has already tried with something a little less gentle. There are a few slight scratches to the top of the reverse. You can't see them all the time but they do show in the picture above. I paid £9 so haven't lost anything. Brian
  11. Think as a piece of social industrial history it is worth more to me than bullion value. It was obviously given to the people involved in the sinking of the pipes and erecting the rigs. I do see what you mean about the Pobjoy Mint, but these were obviously made to order for ETAP, not sold as a novelty or gimmick.
  12. Just wondering if anyone has come across one of these before. It was produced to celebrate the Eastern Trough Area Project in the North Sea. I bought it today for less than its silver value just intrigued. It has finger prints on unfortunately but still in nice condition. Any thoughts Regards Brian
  13. I know you have been looking for one for a while. Looking forward to seeing the pics.
  14. A photo of my acquisition with my photo and the Auction photo. Think I still have lots to learn with capturing all the detail. There is loads of lustre, my image is a bit more mat but closer to the real colour.
  15. Recieved my coin this morning. Very Happy. A little more than i wanted to pay but its a good coin and already in a Quadrum so slipped straight into the collection
  16. Lots of things to think about. Will keep looking into it before I commit fully. Want to do a good job if I do decide to make my own.
  17. Its an MDF with veneer.
  18. Hi All Just got a couple of lovely large hinged boxes which I have decided to convert into coin cases. The coins will be in Quadrums but still want to make sure the material I use is coin safe. What material is best for lining. Are there any adhesives that I should avoid. Also do I need to treat the wood. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Brian
  19. Thanks for the reply Mr Bad Ex.... It was the extremes of the missing parts I find interesting. Even close up on my example there is no sign of the serifs being there!! Possibly could be the same die as yours on its last legs!!
  20. Had a little more on it but was pleased to get it at that. Just stuck to the 1 after I was outbid on the other's.
  21. Well I won one of the lots I bid on. I left the other 2 as I wanted to concentrate on the one I really wanted. So lot 179 the 1932 penny is mine. Looking forward to getting it. Nice to be able to say I have one coin from this outstanding collection.
  22. Hi Bob This site is a great place to learn. Sometimes the prices banded about can get scary but remeber collect at your own level at prices you can afford. The members on her are generous, helpful and also extremely truthful. They call a spade a spade which is brilliant although sometimes it may seem harsh you will learn. Great place with great people. Welcome to the forum and best of luck with the hobby. Brian
  23. Hi Guys A few weeks ago I got some nice Victorian farthings, along with some worn examples. I am collecting farthings but mainly from 1895 to 1970, which is my main area of collecting. This is one of the latter worn coins. My curiosity is if the missing serifs is normal on these coins. The coin itself looks like it has been run over by a truck or scrapped across the floor with a hobnail boot but still interesting. Any information or help would be appreciated. Thanks
  24. Totally agree with you Matt. I thought the £40-£50 openner was about its money. There are a number of other coin sites with Unc examples for the £40-£55 mark. So think I will hold out and see if I can nab a decent example at a good price. It is a great example but have plenty of time. No rush
