  1. As copper halfpenny and farthing varieties have always been an interest of mine this would be a thread I'd happily follow and contribute to. So, for the sake of showing a bit of willing here's one from me which, although originally posted a couple of years ago, might be of interest here to anyone who hasn't seen it. A 1718 halfpenny with the first N of Britannia over an A. An extremely rare and unlisted variety but lower grade and less obvious examples do appear in the Dr. Nicholson and Joe Lee collections.
  2. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/THE-ULTIMATE-ROYAL-NUMBER-PLATE-/301837440738?hash=item4646e9d6e2:g:QyEAAOxySoJTQGVo Wha???? Wouldn't want it for a fiver…...
  3. I had that bookmarked too but, in the end, decided not to bid. The bit poking out from under the five (top left) looks fine but it was what I see under, and to the right, of the down stroke of the five which put me off. That couldn't possibly be the down stroke of a three. Still, maybe my loss. Who knows?
  4. Indeed. I was actually tempted, after reading Flash's post to buy one of the BINs but, as they stand, even with a will to help, the prices quoted are way too high.
  5. Good idea Rob.
  6. Flash. Just a thought: If they're badly in need of raising some funds from the sale a collection maybe you could help her out by (gently) suggesting realistic asking prices? As things stand most, if not all, of the 'Buy It Now's are unlikely to sell. For all her efforts better they get some money than none at all? Please excuse me putting in my tuppence worth. It's a sad story and I just wanted to offer a solution which might help.
  7. A point well made. Good on you Flash.
  8. Errr…. No.
  9. Nice choice Debbie. That's my favourite track on the Station to Station album. Lovely stuff.
  10. Apart from all the truly innovative, and downright entertaining, work he gave us himself if it hadn't been for him so many of us would've remained ignorant of the Velvets, Stooges, Mott, Jacques Brel etc. etc. His influence on us Liverpool kids of the 1970s can't be overstated. We all, boys and girls, both, wanted to be like him. Here's a recently rediscovered performance of The Jean Genie from a 1973 episode of Top of the Pops. LIVE, remember, not mimed. Outstanding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEmGQYCuc6M

  12. My wife's very upset too. She's just returned home from school (early finish today, not because of the news), and I'm told many other members of staff are equally saddened. I guess, for a lot of us, his death represents a part of our youth lost. I'll be watching Cracked Actor and the Ziggy farewell film this evening.
  13. I usually listen to Radio 4 or opera while I'm working but today it'll be his 1970s albums in chronological order. Like so many others I became a fan on seeing that famous performance of Starman on TOTP in 1972. One of the most important UK creatives of modern times.

  15. 'Immaculate condition'. This goes way beyond optimism. I don't think I've ever seen such a worn example of such a relatively recent date!
  16. This one is my particular favourite….. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/British-coin-Georgius-III-1768-/161912328199?hash=item25b2ba1007:g:2SkAAOSwMTZWRyEC
  17. There are a few of the "Dots" that do not appear in the legends. Here is a 1855 Penny, with a "dot" on Victoria's forehead! …. and here's one on George III's neck. He really should put a bit of ointment on that…….
  18. The above is abridged, unfortunately, but worth a look all the same…..

  20. Happy birthday from me too. Have a good one.
  21. Fantastic! I bet poor old Mackenzie Crook and Toby Jones must be green with envy. 'What y'got?' 'Tizer. 1996.'…….
  22. Nooo! And my sincere apologies again for my present distractions! Blessing!Ha, ha! Yes you are. If I was able to produce coin pics like yours I'd be SO chuffed with myself. All the best to you and the family from Eugenie and me.
  23. No problem, we all do it. You're the 'go to' bloke Rob. Can you tell me: how rare is the R over O obverse? Never seen one, though Nick found one in a DNW search in 1995. There is a thread somewhere because I asked the question a while ago. It would be interesting to see what this actually is in hand because I have a 1773 with OR over O - i.e. the underlying O was cut too far clockwise and then corrected. That's very interesting. Its listed in Spink with a premium which would suggest its not that big a deal but, like you, I've not seen one apart from my own. We were in Holland last week so the coin collection, Les Paul, cats (just joking) etc. went into the loft before we left. I'll get them down tomorrow and take a photo. The cats can stay. Ah, the silence…….
