  1. I had been watching a few of these, but got sidetracked with some DIY at the weekend, so completely forgot about them...... That 1844 was definitely better than VF but a few knocks and bumps.
  2. Do you have an existing copy, couldn't you just scan it in, or do you want to change the form?
  3. Another set of fascinating photos, showing battle sites today http://io9.com/sobering-images-show-famous-world-war-i-battle-sites-a-1581624280
  4. Peck I think most people would agree with 2, but unless 1 gets addressed rapidly, then more people see us "getting out" as the only option. The fundamental problem is that the people who have any hope of reforming Europe have no passion to do so, and even if they did, the bureaucracy would prevent it from changing quickly enough.
  5. Couldn't have put it better myself, but you just know that this thread is going to descend into chaos!!
  6. I have had full payout for coins in the past on recorded delivery, Peck is correct that it is only currency coins that are not covered. They will try and tell you it is not applicable, but their description is quite clear. Special delivery covers even currency coins and all valuable items.
  7. Dave I would not get too carried away with the CGS definitions, that was why they dropped back to numbers and removed the accompanying descriptive grade from the slabs. There are certainly examples of coins that would be described as Unc with full lustre that may not make it into the 85+ category due to a weaker strike, carbon spot or visible bag marks. The below coin is a prime example, it has full lustre, but has some light surface marks across the neck and is weak across the legs of Britannia. I thought this was a harsh grade for this coin.....I would have had no doubts describing this coin as BUNC if I was to sell it. http://www.coingradingservices.co.uk/?uin=0019880&page=coin_verification&Submit=Verify
  8. In my opinion it depends on whether the issue continues to get publicised. Collectors know the reality of the scarcity, as we did around the 20p mule, but as long as it remains in the awareness of the public the prices will continue to be maintained. Once the fascination drops away then it will be down to collectors to determine the market value.
  9. I do not have copies of the George II farthings at the moment, so can not really assist...sorry
  10. Ed, Welcome to the forum, I think the midland coin fair is a great place to learn, there is a real mix of dealers and a great range of coins for all budgets.
  11. I did chuckle at this one Dave
  12. I should be able to send you a few farthing pics
  13. It all depends on what you target as a collector. I accept that micro varieties may not appeal to everyone, but they do appeal to some. I agree that the colon/stop varieties do have to be very carefully considered across this series, because a vast majority are just weak as a result of die fill. It is surprising what information gets thrown up as a result of studying magnified coins, it gives you the opportunity to identify what die combinations can potentially exist. In fact the same could be said for the unbarred A's throughout this series.
  14. If it makes you feel any better, I spent half a day not too long ago counting border teeth on Victorian farthings
  15. Go on to the "saleroom" website and you can see them from there
  16. Woohoo I have a small box full of these...I am in the money
  17. No it can be web based, and also available as an app or download for PC or Mac. I have previously used drop box but it did require files to be in a specific sync folder, whereas with one drive, you just select which folders you want included, so there is no requirement to change folder paths which would have been a nightmare for me.
  18. In my opinion extremely difficult to obtain, if you have one for sale I am definitely interested
  19. Certainly possible with the 1843 but would need much clearer pics to have any certainty.
  20. You don't know the sort of stuff I get up to
  21. I have to admit I have tried a couple of external methods. I do back up across my own network, but have tried Just Cloud, who were an absolute nightmare, it was so cumbersome and difficult to use. I have recently given Microsoft Sky Drive a go and have been very impressed. It runs in the background and updates files in realtime. The original files remain on your PC and are backed up to the cloud, It also allows me to view and edit my files on my iphone and ipad and then updates them on my PC. Cost is also very good you get 8GB free, Then I think it was about £30 a year for an extra 100GB. And you can literally back up anything. Support has been very good...and if the CIA want to have a browse through my files they are welcome
  22. Gary I have often wondered the same, and have also thought that it could open the floodgates, if someone sees that this coin realised £400 and then has one themselves, are they not likely to do the same with a "one sold recently on here for £400". This may also give the unsuspecting bargain hunter reason to think the coin does have some value when looking at future sales of similar items. I know that this is done with the best of intentions and I do actually commend you both for trying to do the right thing.
  23. and farthings are just too small.
  24. I actually do not have a single pre-decimal penny in my collection!!! Actually like Clive I do have the odd hammered penny that are mostly detecting finds.
