  3. Got a nice BP1860P at DNW auction last week (their pic). I've been looking for a good quality specimen for a long time - seems to be reasonably scarce.
  4. Mike Get yourself on their catalogue circulation list - they're high quality lists. I pull down photos of the rare pennies from the website so may have images of coins you're interested in.
  5. Well done Mike - a genuinely scarce variety
  6. Good buy Jerry - a rare one, that.
  7. Yes, it's a "feature" of the forum - although I highlighted a piece of Ian's posting, because it was within your reply, it attributed the quote to you.
  8. The first useful information will probably be the posting of the prices realised, probably on Monday or Tuesday. This will give you a clue as to whether you were successful or not, but not necessarily as auctions often let a floor bidder take a lot with a bid that matches a commission bid. If successful, you will receive an invoice later in the week.
  9. Not to mention, there are no known proofs with this die pairing !
  10. Thanks Jon - it doesn't look like a proof with those teeth ! How come this seller has such a high feedback figure ?
  11. Have you got the link, Pete ?
  12. One for the penny collectors..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1897-DOT-Victoria-Penny-coin-W1897a-Fair-F147-O-NE-very-RARE-/142401613037?hash=item2127cc2ced:g:81IAAOSwYlRZMHBo
  13. Just checked about a dozen and they're all "smooth to the left" - quite interesting.
  14. Yes, it's been posted a few times but here it is again to save searching.
  15. No - this rare, possibly unique, penny has the modified effigy obverse but the true 1927 reverse.
  16. Thanks Mike, just what I wanted.
  17. Can anyone tell me about or point me to a reference about the Royal Mint Trial 12-sided £1 coin, many of which are for sale on Ebay. I'm particularly interested in the number minted, how they were distributed/applied for, etc etc
  18. Certainly - ignore their description. You're virtually correct in that all three are examples of early beaded border pattern F763 but lots 2833 and 2972 are Gouby A+b where the R & E of REG touch at the base and lot 2834 is Gouby A1+b where R & E do NOT touch at the bottom. All 3 are rare and should fetch broadly similar prices.
  19. Loadsapennies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. One of my spares has a low colon although maybe not as low as yours.
  21. I have 2 Peter Nichols cabinets and the second was bought second hand at a London Coins auction - some of the drawers didn't have the size of recess that I wanted but I sent one off to Peter Nichols and they made me half a dozen of the same size with the recesses that I wanted that fitted exactly. It's not a bad way of getting a quality cabinet designed to your particular reqts.
  22. It appears that the horse is rogering the dragon.............
  23. No - I don't think a scan from his book will transfer very effectively
  24. I've added your coin to my rarest pennies website as the 3rd example - hope that's OK, Jerry.
