  1. All Obverse H (Freeman 5) coins have those 3 dots by the teeth I believe.
  2. Actually I'm thinking more and more that they do !
  3. Could it be that Obverse 5 (Gouby H) was originally intended to also carry L C WYON below the bust but was later abandoned ?
  4. Actually, although the "letters" are in a different place from Obverse F (Freeman 4), they are about the same size and spacing.
  5. Bought an interesting penny in Baldwin's auction last week. Advertised as F15 with weak signature under the bust, it was clearly an F16 with some strange markings under the bust. Close up there is some extraneous metal, perhaps from a die clash, that appears to the naked eye to be a very weak "L C WYON" but isn't !
  6. It bears no resemblance to the 1862 over 1 penny.
  7. If you search London Coins archives, you'll find plenty of lustrous F10 pennies that sold for under £200 - it's quite a common variety as Peckris describes above - just trying to manage your expectations.
  8. I think that may be taking things a bit too far ! Definitely one for the geeks.
  9. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-1865-VICTORIA-ONE-PENNY-COIN-COIN-HUNT-WITH-SOME-LUSTRE-Z24/222932297922?hash=item33e7cce8c2:g:TokAAOSwfqFaycvA Lustre ? Surely it's cameo at least ?
  10. 10 out of 24 on Monday, 12 out of 20 on Tuesday - a select bunch !
  11. Every day, Wordpress presents me with statistics of visits to my pennyvarieties website, indicating which country those visits are from. In the last 2 days, the majority of the visits have been from Russia ! I have never before seen any visits from Russia. Do we have a penny collector in Russia, I wonder, or is it some hacker looking for a way into the wicked West's computer systems ? Should we be worried ?????
  12. I've added this variety to both Varieties and Rarities websites. Do you have pics of Larry's obverse and reverse ?
  13. On a true beaded border penny ALL of the "teeth" are circular beads separate from the outer rim. If any tooth joins the outer rim then it is a toothed border. Check out the pictures on my varieties website (below)
  14. So, I ask again, what's Ultra Cameo ?
  15. It's the grading companies - they're the ones I'm blaming.
  16. Just received an email from Sovereign Rarities with their latest offerings which contain items described as "Ultra Cameo" and "Deep Cameo". This is getting ridiculous. They seem to inventing dozens of new grades at the top end. Any excuse to charge a bit more......
  17. Also, rev A date is 11 teeth wide, rev B is 13 teeth wide - simples.
  18. There may be a clue in that the vendor won't post to the UK !
  19. Just goes to show the risks of buying coins from photographs alone. The camera lies like a cheap watch.
  20. You're absolutely right - surprised no-one spotted it before now - hopefully correct now.
  21. An in-focus photo would be helpful.
