  1. I remember that well - "Lay down girl, let me push it up, push it up". Subtle it wasn't.
  2. I think the original was "What's the difference between a magician's wand and a policemen's truncheon ? Answer - one's used for cunning stunts and the other..........."
  3. "Cupid Stunt" - the most risque spoonerism on TV.
  4. I messaged him and said that it was "naughty" as such copies sell for a few pounds - must have tweaked his conscience.
  5. It downloads rather than displays.
  6. I attended that Gregory sale and examined all the pennies. I put a tick and the word "nice" in the catalogue next to that 1859 proof (lot 416) meaning that I'd bid for it which suggests that I thought it was genuine but also put an exclamation mark against the hammer price (£1100) which meant that I was very surprised at the price. All of which tells you (and me) nothing ! As you say, too much of a gamble to bid remotely.
  7. I last emailed Iain Draycott about 3 years ago when I was putting together my halfpenny site. I have his email address from then if anyone would like it.
  8. Do you have good pictures of obverses 11 and 12 illustrating the differences ?
  9. Kid Galahad ? (one for us oldies)
  10. Yes, my own spare version has all these features:
  11. The 1841 "proof" could start an interesting discussion between the buyer and Noonan's. I'm pretty sure from the photos that it's not a proof but where does a buyer stand when it's been graded by a reputable TPG as a Proof ?
  12. I've just checked my own 1861 over 1 and, surprise surprise, it also has an open P, although I can't make my mind up whether it's exactly the same font as seen on my F20 and the F36 and 37 proofs. F33 1 over 1, F36, F37, F20 - it's the foot of the P that is clearly indented on the right hand 3 coins but I'm not sure about the F33. Interestingly, the F36 also has a 1 over 1 although the date is wider:
  13. I had a half litre of acetone delivered successfully a year or two ago from Ebay.
  14. You can lead a horse to water.....................
  15. There are rare occasions when you have no idea what a particular rare coin will go for and you have to be prepared to make last minute decisions on how much you want it and how much you'll pay for it. Be still, my beating heart.
  16. Blake, you're missing out on of the few moments of genuine excitement available to a poor old pensioner like myself.
  17. As an auction nears completion, the time remaining shows in seconds and counts down before your eyes. If you've input your bid but not confirmed it, you are able to time confirmation for a few seconds before closure. But I have done this only to find that the remaining time changes and sometimes to over a minute remaining.
  18. If they were using up old 1853 dies, it's reasonable to assume that there was more than die that got altered, and the state of the queen's hair could differ between the dies. The above coin and one that I have certainly appear to be 4 over 3 types, with stronger hair. I have now added Jerry's coin and my own coin to the rare penny site together with an updated description of the variety to include these "stronger hair" types.
  19. I'm relieved that other people have seen this issue, so it's not just me.
  20. My money's on reverse D - from the rocks either side of the lighthouse. And the remains of the W of LCW.
  21. Nothing wrong with that - all I ask is that these individuals state that it is their opinion, and not issue proclamations as if they're proven undeniable facts.
  22. Like London buses, you wait ages for one and then two come along at once.
