  1. Would they have been be insured for loss by Fedex ?
  2. 99% of Commemoratives and almost anything that you buy from the RM these days, with very few exceptions, is only ever going to be worth the metal value (if they're silver or gold) at resale....could be worse, you could have bought from those calling themselves London Mint and Westminster Mint and then you are looking at about 10% of what you paid for your coins !
  3. Spink don't have a retail coin business....if they 'wanted' it and thought it was worth it they would only have suggested it going into one of their auctions.
  4. Does anyone have or know of anyone that has an 1887 Long set (£5 down) Specimen set, case......that might want to sell it? Thanks
  5. Personally , imo , I would say it looks ok and I've seen quite a few !.....the good news is that most of the fakes that were produced in the 80's by XX are normally high grade and you can spot the broken I in 'qui' which is the easiest way of telling the fake 05 without a magnifying glass.
  6. Coinkat and AXDA ......thanks for your replies .....good advice...

    SPINK

.....has anyone had any dealings with then recently ??
  8. As an aside, has anyone ever managed to get through the gatekeepers and actually speak to Steve at LC ? Also, I suspect that Bill Pugsley will make a move at some point and actually buy CGS.....you heard it here first !
  9. DNW offer free slabbing to anyone putting their coins into their Auctions.....personally I have always done well with selling certain slabbed coins as apposed to them being in the raw...particularly high grade G4 and W4 sovs and Victorian silver for some reason...copper / bronze less so....my experience any way. (Although I guess its difficult to say without selling an identical raw coin in the same sale and comparing the results)
  10. Has anyone ever used NGC or got a view about them? Thanks
  11. Good lord and there's me just thinking I would slab a coin to see if it fetches more when I put it in auction....and all along , according to those people on the high moral ground here , what I am is just an uneducated collector of 40 years....well, slap my thighs and paint me pink Blackadder....
  12. Well that put me in my place didn't it....I'm uneducated because I wanted it stabbed as I suspectedby doing so it might fetch a bet
  13. I recently sent in an attractive NVF 1860 mule (F9) to PCGS for slabbing and grading..so not a washer and pretty obvious what it was to anyone who wasn't blind ....and, yep it came back as an ordinary 1860...I think that I bought this one off Bernie many many years ago.....will have to break it out .....grrrrrr
  14. Customs charges in my experience are a mystery and not easy to check or dispute much in the same way as mobile phone bills.
  15. As this stands its totally unworkable and will never happen. A bit like I read this morning that doctors will be fined for over subscribing pills ..or the one where you will be be fined for hogging the middle lane on motorways..and all the other nonsense laws that they threaten us with....its just scaremongering by government bodies to keep us all under control....
  16. I have to say though that in my experience of buying and selling as a collector that Penny collectors are the worst to deal with.....If I had an 1877 ND in Fine for £50 on ebay I would get emails saying that they would buy it for £10 as its low grade but really they are waiting for one in BU for £60 and to let them know when I get one ....sorry, just my experience.
  17. Is it me?...I've gone into Prices Realised for the June auction a couple of days ago. Page 1 starts at Lot No 1659 ....then Page 2 goes straight in to the MAY 2015 auction...?? Computers...they're just a passing fad...
  18. I hae trickled out the surplus over the years. I even have a handful left to go, but if I was to sell the collection I would then have to start again. I don't believe I could reassemble it in either a reasonable timeframe or in suitable quality. The last 5 or 6 years have been very difficult to find things to add at reasonable prices. I've bought and sold two significant collections over the last 40 years...the last was about 2 years ago....I think I'm about to embark on the third ....I cant get it out of my system.!.... So if anyone out there has a single collection of any English or Scottish coins (Gold, silver, bronze, hammered or milled ) they want to sell in one lot to get me kick started as I'm knocking on a bit, then do please let me know !
  19. amazing..!...I've got one of those Australian holey dollars...do you think he could fix that?
  20. >>>> I meant " ..he probably DIDNT give a sh!t..."
  21. I once bought some coins from Roddy Richardson out of a fit of pique !...lol It was at York a few years back....David Seaman had a stall upstairs next to Roddy Richardson....I was on a mission to spend several £thousand in cash on my then collection at the time at the fair. There were several pieces on Dave Seaman's stall that I wanted to buy that came to about £3k in total...I asked if he could do something on the price he just said "No" and looked away from me..... I moved next door to Roddy's stall and spent twice as much very obviously so that David Seaman could hear and see...he probably did give a sh1t but I felt better for it....LOL !.
  22. It was me......I have an email from Mr Omogulu in Nigeria saying that I about to get £20m and I only have to give him my bank details....sorted !
