  1. For me its the bogus RM handling charge that really annoys me .a totally non refundable ransom charge
  2. I remember going to his shop when it was Michael Howard Coins ....in partnership with Laurence Howard? ..who had an extremely attractive Fench wife if I recall...or that might have been a teenage fantasy ??
  3. Blimey ...I just asked if there was a UK v US grading equivalent....my first personal foray into TPG ...I just had a few coins graded by PCGS and I couldn't believe some of the grades that they came back with and it would certainly confuse the heck out many people here I'm sure ...AU55 (that's Almost Uncirculated?) I would grade as GVF in my case and MS61 (Mint State ?) as EF ...IMO I think it is still clearly a US v UK thing
  4. Is there anything on here or anywhere that correlates US grading with UK grading.? For example what does say AU55 correspond to in the UK? I've seen what I consider to be UK VF coins and EF coins graded as AU55 ....and does the MSxx grade really mean Mint State? ....certainly I've seen MS61 and MS62 nothing like what I would consider to be UK UNC.... Thanks
  5. OMG...don't talk about 'making a profit' on here ! ....
  6. Has any seen one of these .. I’ve seen the 1897 and 1946 ..I have a 1900 with clearly the same dot .., thanks
  7. Thanks ! That’s the emails stopped I hope .. now for the junk mail
  8. ....I am inundated almost on a daily basis by mail with Offers and Marketing material and with emails that I cant unsubscribe from .....grrrr.
  9. Dear Rob,

Are you the same Rob that bought some Numismatic Auction catalogues and letters from me at Shepperton Film Studios some while ago?

    Apologies if you're not.

      Hi Lawrence.

Looks like I am one and the same, though I wouldn't have guessed from your id. :) Where does that come from?

How are you doing and what are you collecting these days?

      Regards

      Rob

      Hi Rob,

Im doing well and lucky enough to collect anything that I like the look of from 5 Guineas to hammered pennies and everthing inbetween...if there's anything nice that you ever think about selling do let me know.

Colin was / is my friend who set this up for me (I wasnt very IT lierate, still not ) ....the idiot that he is (in a good way) put his own name as a user id ....I sort of left it and to be fair it suited me from a security aspect ....people put up too much on these sites....I was mortified when you told me that the messages I had sent 'Stuntman' and 'RCL35' weren't private...

      All the best

      Lawrence

  10. Hi....I dont want to put pictures up on this site but in Porsche's I've have a 993 Turbo and a 993 C2..had the engine totally rebuilt early on this year by Peter one of the ex RUF boys at GT1 in Chertsey.

A few other minor classics, TR3, Healey 3000 and I've just bought a Bill Richards Race prepared  Healey Sprite....dont laugh !...its close to the 993 Turbo for fun around the track...

Did you go to the New Years day Classic at Brooklands or to any of the Goodwood events?

If you're actually a stuntman do you know Gary Powell at Pinewood Shepperton?

    Best

    Colin

  11. Yep they did that with me too on an 1860 Mule Freeman 9 Penny ...came back as an ordinary F10 ...which I still have btw if anyone wants to buy it.
  12. err...dunno....I've had a look at there's no mention of anything like that ....if it's a big problem for you then there used to be a guy there called Phil Skidingly but I think he's left ...dunno who to talk to there now...the editor in the book is someone called Emma Howard ...
  13. This now appears to be available ...well I''ve got one anyway !
  14. Can I spend the 5 Guinea piece that I got in change at the newsagents...are guineas still legal tender?..thanks
  15. How do you do that....I mean set a up a legitimate Ebay account and a linked Paypal account then it all disappears completely ? As an aside, this afternoon I tried to get SKY to take off "Movies" from my package as it were....I suspect its much easier to buy industrial grade Plutonium on the street....and would get asked fewer questions I'm sure.
  16. As you say a £130 coin tops....can often be found in this grade too... The company are supposedly called London Coin Investments...they sound like another Westminster Mint / London Mint type outfit...
  17. Tiddly winks at it again I'm afraid.....
  18. All I can say is thank god for Pam West (even if she is banknotes..) ...always a smile, always ready to chat, always sounds interested.....she should go around to all the coin dealers and show them how its done......
  19. Did anyone go to York.....did anyone buy anything?
  20. The £40m is assets Rob was mostly what they valued their stock at based on their own SG book values....which as we know the actual true market value of most stamps is about 10-20% of the SG book value....as opposed to it being any sort of remotely true reflection of market value ..unlike the Coins of England which more or less in most cases gives you a good indication of market value.
  21. This is not a new JV...Baldwins and Fenton have already been and already were in an established partnership from 2004 until they divorced in 2012. Personally I'm with Jaggy on this one, I've always found Baldwins incredibly arrogant and of the 'me expert, you dickead' school of customer interfacing. Again, personally I dont see how NP joining as MD is a great move, with what must be a conflict of interest?. Whatever the current arrangement is between Baldwins and St James's I'm sure that one or other will be looking to be top dog and eat the weaker one ....my money would be on Fenton as top dog. Has anyone dealt with Sovereign Rareties yet?
  22. Although Coins of England 2017 may suggest otherwise , I would argue that the price of 1934 Crowns has actually decreased in recent times because of so many of the (mainly Chinese) fakes that are currently on the market and that buyers have and that buyers should be, extremely wary of spending £thousands on these coins. Also interesting to see that in the Coins of England book is that the 1933 Crown is asterisked as a coin that is often faked but not so the 1934...in my experience of collecting these I have very rarely seen a 1933 fake but have seen many 1934 fakes.....and 27 and 28 come that.
  23. This is probably a daft question but other than the type of finish is there any way of telling apart the proof or specimen strike from the currency strike on the 1887 Gold (£5 down to half sov), like you can on the silver. Some of the early struck currency gold coins look incredibly proof like ......is there something else that can differentiate? Thanks
