    Does anyone have an image of a DISH 504 half sovereign? David Iverson and Steve Hill's publication just has a close-up of the initials and the only image I can find is https://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&auc=166&searchlot=901&searchtype=2 which isn't particularly clear.

    Looks like a Holland D* as well (sub-variety of Freeman D). Paul Holland has looked at some die cracks in his articles but they're in-depth (not just documenting the different cracks).

    Yes I just had a play with the search - it didn't return anything obvious. Lots of British West African pieces are photographed but not British pieces.

    I think I found second 1982 Solomon Islands proof set (no case, just the coins) for sale on ebay for $5 or thereabouts. I had no need but the mintage is unknown (but likely less than 200). I'm sure the set would normally cost around $200. Other than that it has been a struggle to find even one of the Cook Islands or Solomon Islands rarities.

    I suppose it was before we were all born, so we have no fond memories of it, but was there any copper book similar to Freeman's when decimalisation rolled around? I assumed that bronze varieties were popular because they were cheap (to pull from change at least) but also because there was a readily available reference book that got to the point.

    Is the coin rusted? Looks like it may have been buried.

    I would too - I've seen a few scarce Solomon Islands things come up and have bought duplicates.

    It is a good read - I think Michael Gouby said he used it as a starting point and when he asked Graham Dyer about where the bronze figures came from, he said they were best effort at the time when O'Sweeny contacted him.

    Also that's on a Jubilee head rather than a young head right? And where did you get the images? Are they from an auction? I've had no luck looking for a "wide date" 1887 sixpence.

    Oh, maybe like the 1887 half crown - do you have a picture of the whole coin? Odd that a pattern would have such an overdate though.

    I don't know the history of the Franklin Mint but I thought it went out of business or similar and continues to exist in name only. Not outside the realm of possibility that staff kept or sold old dies.

    Ah nice, thanks - looks I had that bookmarked but the auction search doesn't seem to highlight whose collection it was.

    I'm a bit confused - 2+G, 3+G and 6+G are the known die pairings for 1862 right? Reverse G obviously has a number of different date spacings, but the obverses don't vary do they?

    I haven't looked at ebay much lately - I see a few coins trying to sold on UK Facebook coin groups but I don't pay enough attention to see if they do sell.

    Hm, the plot thickens. Was the Franklin Mint source published in one of those early catalogues?

    Shame - I periodically see the unlisted types get mentioned here and note them down. I don't suppose there was an auction of Davies' collection at any point? Or is he still collecting?

    Oh interesting - not in Davies. Do you know where they were published?

    Again, for 11 pieces, why bother? Is this a coin for which the dies were mysteriously sold off or was that another Panamanian coin?
