Frank may gave up the job in 1893 so its pretty certain that box does not belong with the 1902 set as their is 15 years difference in date , its more certain that this box had a 1887 0r 1893 set inside IMHO. By the way I would imagine that box and set of rare coins would fetch £700 or so in that grade (Around £20 to £25 a coin) am I guessing right ? It certainly is not one for a collector on a budget I bet the reverend rogers would have loved it

The box has p. may as the cashier so it should be easy to go back through the old B.O.E. cashiers and work out if its in the 1911 period Simples really

The one exception can be that rare variety you find after years of looking and just buy on impulse - you tend to only look carefully when you get home...

I would go for a "9" only a guess though.

Just to start this thread off again heres a little lovely that I picked up at the last York fair (Friday) Have never seen one like this -its the smallest size and has a grained edge , hopefully someone might know a bit about it , its in lovely grade and I jumped at it for £12 , total bargain in this grade I am sure.

Great excuse to break it out and let it free , pretty sure a penny is worth much more than a halfpenny anyway

Do I have a 1911 hollow neck here?

Looks like its been cleaned as well if its a farthing -
Well by 1965 or so only 2% or %3 of bronze pennies were victorian bun pennies so it really must have been a long slog.
-
Sorry i got what you said wrong - I understand it now - but just think of all those 1967 pennies - yuk ......

I have done banking for a shop and I assure you every day you have to bank every coin from the penny to the two pound coins if someone had come into my shop and asked me to sort out say all the bronze coins till 1992 and offered me no financial reward they would have been laughed out of the shop , its basically a pain. Of course it was pretty handy for myself when the undated 20ps and kews were circulating
-
Not really they would have plenty other coins beside pennies what about the shilling ,sixpence &threepence coins and halfpennies they would still have to sort the Victorian bun pennies for Mr freeman and receive no monetary reward
-
Seems unlikely that the bus station would go to all that bother then sell them at zero profit --- come on would you do it????
-
Bet they would not like scotland

there's a test for that
