I love Declan's suggestion and 'homework'! Knowing how to grade, and what appeals to you are key, I think, but starting from zero you might be amazed how many 'decent' coins you can get for 50p to £10 even going back 2000 years to Roman times! So dip your toe in the water at minimal cost with a range of coins, reading, and coin fairs, would be how I would do it 2nd time around. I made a few mistakes at first as do many/most, and in a sense that is part of the fun, but you don't want these to be too expensive!
