  1. Welcome to the Forum scirbbles (or should that be Scribbles?)
  2. Spotted Rob, maybe he deserves credit as one of Britain's stupidest criminals? Because that's what they are, maybe we should campaign to get them on Watchdog as Rogue Traders??
  3. Yeah, no cake and no coin either, haha! I mean Yaya ... how old are you again??
  4. What's the cheapest train fare to Indianapolis again?
  5. And the key to THAT is to have a lunatically high disposable income!! Also, to add to the point that Richard (I think it was) made recently, our standards change over time ... some coins I considered keepers that I would have never wanted to upgrade when I acquired them have been superseded as my expectations and experience have increased ... I would imagine many relatively new collectors go through the same evolution / learning curve?
  6. Great Job Stu, much better than you find in most numismatic literature! Are you intending to document all of the bust varieties in this format?
  7. Arrived today, Middlesex Masonic token, seller's pics (yet to do my own)
  8. Thanks, yes I have the latest CCGB on my tablet. Is it always the case that the mintage figures given are the number of coins of said denomination minted in that year, and NOT (necessarily) the number minted with that year on the coin? If so, is there no way of knowing for sure how many coins were minted/issued with a particular date on them?
  9. Mark, I must be blind, where are they in ESC?
  10. Does anyone have a link to official mintage figures for pre-decimal coins, I can't find what I am looking for on the Royal Mint site? Is it true that in most (if not all) cases the number stated concerns the number minted in that year, rather than the number minted with that year stated on the coin? I am interested in particular in Viccy silver figures, but I would hope and expect to find everything available on a single site?
  11. I find all of these 18th/19th century tokens quite fascinating as antique items documenting social history, which is what they are!
  12. This is still true, but (for me / my settings) EBay automatically opens a case after a set number of days
  13. Rich, normally eBay chases payment for you (for me it's after much less than 10 days, but it may be configurable / a setting) and after a short while informs you that you can re-list or make a 'second-chance' offer (to the under-bidder). Have you had no messages about it from eBay themselves?

    Guineas

I collect guineas by type. They seem to have very high prices for an item that most people don't appear to collect. I suspect most people buy one or two they like and that's it. The rarity ratings for guineas and prices in the various catalogues are wildly out (IMHO). Philip I've noticed the prices in Spinks catalogues being wildly innacurate. I've created a spreadsheet detailing grade and prices realised of some issues over the last few years from popular auction houses and there is a massive difference. As much as 100% with some! Any chance you would be prepared to share your findings?
  15. I don't believe so, but London Coins is a part (50% ?) owner of CGS
  16. With hammered you will find something different every time, good choice! Endless research possibilities and varieties, happy hunting! There are experts on here giving advice for free that is better than anywhere on the planet!
  17. Welcome Stu, do you have a particular coin collecting focus? Whatever questions you have, feel free to ask them here
  18. Love those too Shagreen and Declan! I, like many many others, also love the out-of-reach-for-many Gothic Crowns, but isn't the design is the same on the much-more-obtainable Gothic Florins?
  19. That's a very interesting observation ChKy. Personally I think we recognise these anniversaries a little too much, do you think it is less palatable in Germany because of the outcomes in the last 100 years and resulting reparations and hardship?
  20. High-ISH? ISH???? You can't get better than that! I have ceased searching for an upgrade, it's a keeper!
  21. Thanks all for your kind messages! No coins as gifts but maybe some money towards one on my wish list

    Guineas

Hey Mark, no, it's a CGS pic and not my coin
  24. I also love this rev design, and find that in high-ish grade like this they can have great eye appeal, but in low-mid grades they look horrible!
  25. Thanks CT, but not even aUNC according to CGS (they have high standards!)
