  1. Mine (your new one) is winging its way to you Pete
  2. Hi Marston, if you're on Facebook you may want to join the group 'Coin Grading Services (CGS) Collectors', Bill Pugsley has posted detailed information on what the LCGS site currently offers
  3. I agree with that Oz, but keeping the faith that there are better strikes out there! This is unlikely to be my keeper, but nonetheless interested in views on this!
  4. Agree with 9 over over 9 if anything, but various die issues gets my vote!
  5. Do you have any pictures you could post?
  6. Double-struck for me
  7. It has taken me a good long while to find a circulation half crown I am happy with, when it comes to grade, strike and eye appeal. I have now done so and the half crowns that did not make the grade so-to-speak are up for sale (not on eBay as yet) I now want to do the same for circulation 1911-1919 Florins This is not my best example, and it is a rarer date, but it illustrates well what I am after - a much stronger set of lions' faces at 12 o/c on the reverse! If any of you out there know of a better one or have one for sale please PM me .
  8. When I could access the site, there was a member 'senrac' (yes with an N not an M) with a goodly number of CGS graded coins ... just an observation!
  9. Not as far as I know, £2-8-80-185 in F to UNC (Spink 2015)
  10. A farthing ... something wrong?
  11. The number to call is now the number for London Coins, they will definitely answer!
  12. Bill has posted extensively in his Facebook Group 'Coin Grading Services (CGS) Collectors'
  13. I'm in South London so there are several fairs, not been for a while though
  14. I think Rob attends, for one
  15. I agree with that SS. It's the proposal that in order to verify a CGS coin you have to be a member, at whatever cost and inconvenience, that will be a barrier to trading in them, whether buying or selling - that's the killer for me. I'm also interested in Rob's comment, that the number of 'iffy' items is the same in the US as it is here ... I had assumed it was FAR more of an issue over there!
  16. The database pretty much looks after itself. It's the cost of employing people to provide the service when on average they have slabbed 4,000 coins per year at a charge of around £15 per coin (on average) - annual revenue from slabbing therefore around £60k. The fee is a flawed attempt at turning a profit.
  17. Fundamental flaw is exactly what it is in my book! It wouldn't be quite so bad if they kept the verification function free and charge a fee for access beyond that ...
  18. That, I think, is the biggest issue with this change
  19. Total carnage Train wreck
  20. This is the same pricing model, pretty much, they had briefly before their £500 lifetime membership brainwave
  21. Very much appreciated Bob, but surely there are many specialist Viccy copper penny collectors on here for which this is just run of the mill!? I'm happy, so I'll move on to finding a nice example in another area Possibly being hard on myself!
  22. Thanks Bob, I'm dead pleased because I dipped my toe into copper for the (almost) first time and I think I did well. Did research and took advice, but pleased for my first biggie! It's an 1854 Penny, and very happy with the grade ... I can grade I think but anything above aUNC (or MS63) is trickier in these! To get CGS 80 (MS64) was a bonus
  23. I had a batch completed on Saturday 23rd July (of which this was one) .. finally! Just noticed their pics no longer refer to CGS, rather the 'London Coins Grading Service' ... at least that connection will be more transparent then, I'd have thought they would move the other way! http://www.coingradingservices.co.uk/img.php?u=39472&f=r&
  24. LOL nice to see a post from you Chris!
