I've been at my job now a year (through an agency) and yesterday i went and asked HR about a fulltime contract with them. After a year they can take me on without having to pay a huge fee to the agency, the sound i got was favourable and because we are really busy right now it was the best time to ask. With that in mind my income will shoot up by nearly 1000 euros a month (take home). If all goes well i'll hopefully by sometime next year be in a better position to start looking at top end coins and Scottish hammered has been a small area of interest to me along with hammered gold and commonwealth coins. For now i shall just be looking until the right time comes along, hopefully in the not to distant future..

London Coins 'Realised Prices' archive is a good place to look. As for the R. Ingram example, the picture isn't particularly convincing. I dunno how lot 244 made more than 1179 in those results, 244 looks as though it had some cleaning to the OBV behind the bust of Victoria, very strange result that, 1179 looks far superior to me I agree, although 1179 seems to have quite a lot of surface marks in front of the face. The one thing that is annoying about London Coins pictures is the inconsistent style. Some are large, some are small, lighting and backgrounds vary which make comparisons difficult. They should just settle on a photographic setup and stick with it. Its all done to enhance an individual coin Nick, it can't be nything other than that. Look at both of those coins, one has subdued lighting (244 obviously due to the OBV scratches and wanting as much cash from the coin) the other not because it photographed well

Rendel (Ingram) is pretty reliable - if he says it's a proof I think you can be confident that it is. As for rims on something like that - if the milling goes evenly from edge to edge, without a chamfering fall-off towards the rim edge, and if the rim edges feel sharp to the touch, then it stands a good chance of being a proof if all other factors are in place. You'd have to see and 'handle' the coin to be sure though, pictures generally wouldn't do. Unfortunately i can't say the same for his grading, pretty poor actually. I bought a coin from him in what was supposed to be GVF and it was no more than AVF at best. Ingrams pics are not good, they are always distant (for a reason i might add) once bitten etc.

Turkish banks accept $ or €, the wifes father took early retirement and got quite a large pay off, he stasshed most of it there and now he basically goes there once a year for 3 months, withdraws the intrest and lives off that most of the year. Its definately a better rate than any UK or German banks are giving right now. He'll be able to buy his own Porsche by the time he's 15 lol Apparently the Turkish economy is doing pretty well, probably due to the fact that they're not in the EU

He already has a fair amount of cash in the bank, we save as much as we can for him due to his disability, we don't actually know how much it will affect him in the future so we are just ploughing as much as we can into his account. We then take a percentage of that out each year and take it to Turkey where the Turkish banks pay 10% a year (much more than here or the UK) His grandfather has opened an account for him there and has put in a lump sum also, so we just top it up yearly. I already have started collecting a few coins for him (Pennies) some junk to test the water when he's ready and some decent stuff which was sent over by John Stephenson when i've bought a couple from him, he threw in a few for the wee guy. The rarer Gold would also be easier to sell if he did'nt fancy it, or else i could just buy it and just sell it on, hopefully at profit which would then just go into his bank accout.

I've been collecting pre 1920 (junk coins shall we say) Sticking them in a jar, i'm actually hoping that some of this still will be melted eventually in the hope it will keep the junk off ebay, so far i have around 300g pre 1920. There's someone selling 352g on ebay now thats at around 331 quid, so its going at around 1 pound a gram

It seems that .925 silver right now on ebay is making roughly pound a gram if thats any help. A friend of mine recently sold some 9ct Gold, 57g and got 725 quid or thereabouts

Nicks statement is correct, some coins issued during 1920 were also .925 silver and others .500, but i won't be dropping any i have to check. There must be another way to test the silver content during the 20s? Anyone?
