  1. Sheesh. The logic function has seemingly not been enabled in many e bayers.
  2. Superlative coin, Jaggy. Don't know, Pete. But if you listened in to the auction audio, it was very apparent that there were many internet global buyers from the USA principally, but also from Russia, Japan and even China. So who knows where it ended up - although hopefully with a forum member.
  3. Re: the 1871 - £800 to £1000 was an incredibly low estimate for a coin of such quality. Which is basically consistent with all we have said about their estimates being on the low side, and more often than not, being surpassed, sometimes by many orders of magnitude.
  4. No worries, Jerry & well done Two out of three I regard as a success. Besides which the F32 was my main target. Will look forward to your pics, and will post mine as soon as I receive the coins.
  5. Just got home from work where I was unfortunately delayed. But found that I was successful with 2 of my 3 bids. Got lots 969, the F22 and lot 1423, the F32, at £130 & £400 respectively. Failed on lot 1422, the F18.
  6. Got a decent copy of Peck for £50. Description as follows:- , Peck, C.W., English Copper, Tin and Bronze Coins in the British Museum, 1558-1958, 2nd edn, London, 1964, xx + 648pp, 50 fine collotype plates (Manville 1115). Publisher’s blue cloth; a clean working copy with a few pencil annotations, inscribed to Jeff Gardiner from his wife, February 1967, on first free endpaper and with publicity leaflet by the Empire Coin Co [Q.D. Bowers] relating to Bowers’ acquisition of Peck’s 1954 Penny on 10 December 1963 [weight 2.2 kg] £60-80
  7. Yes, I'm in two minds as to whether to re-bid myself. A few are selling at or below estimate, more especially the ones with low estimates below £100. The majority are well over, however.
  8. Some are literally massively above upper estimate, no exaggeration. One was £260 upper estimate, went for £700. It is mostly internet vs internet. Not many room bids.
  9. Following this on live audio, and although I've no interest in the items currently being auctioned, I can say with absolute certainty that every item has fetched well above the upper estimate. Room and internet bidding against each other. Very very interesting.
  10. Well potted, Pete. Never seen an 1897 dot in UNC. In fact never seen one with lustre before.
  11. It is very strange, although certain devices seem more vulnerable than others. As you say, let's hope Chris can get to the bottom of it.
  12. The phone does as well, Matt, but I'm getting ads on there. Somewhat inexplicable at this moment in time.
  13. Yes. Can't explain that. All I know is that my PC on Windows 10, is 100% immune with ad block plus installed. On my Nexus 7 (Android v6 M) tablet, I don't have any ad block installed, but have no problem whatsoever. Can't explain the natural immunity here either. I posted an ad which appeared on my Sony Xperia M4 phone previously, and was going to ad block for android on it, but am running out of space. I will get an SD card, do it then and report back.
  14. I suppose it could have been reasonably referred to as an "odd obb coin"
  15. <snipped for brevity> Pete - forgive my thickness, but what's a "RANG"?
  16. Absolutely David. E bay is shark infested waters, but if you know your subject well, you can land some real bargains. I got my F76 at a knock down price from e bay, and more recently, a GEF F15 at a reasonable price.
  17. It probably isn't, Pete, but it is careless and ultimately a misrepresentation of fact. Above all it's irritating - however, as it's such a tiny amount of money, no harm done. I was half joking about naming the seller, that's why I used the old fashioned term "bounder".
  18. Tough call, Matt. I agree with the others, name and shame this bounder.
  19. Sorry to hear that the venture didn't work out as planned, Declan. I don't think I'd be suited to the corporate thing, either.
  20. This is exactly what I was referring to. Ads interfering with reading and/or posting. Surprised at block not working for you.
  21. How do you tell the difference?
  22. Verd is often quite difficult to spot on photos. It can be mistaken for something else, and vice versa. The F15 I obtained quite cheaply off e bay recently, has a tiny spot of verd on the reverse, which because the seller's photo was so dark, I couldn't see. One of those things.
  23. Actually, to be fair, I think LCA grades quite conservatively. At any rate, I've never seen one that I've looked at and/or been interested in, overgraded. If anything, they go marginally under. Others may disagree.
  24. Another irritating facet of modern life - predictive text. Fortunately the latest phones/tablets will auto "correct" the first time you type in a word it disagrees with. But when you delete the replacement and re-type your original, it will hold, and the next time you start the same sequence of words, it will show your word at the top for selection, having remembered it.
