  1. I like the mary rose one. the bible one looks a bit bland though, so much unused space.
  2. HALF unbarred A and top of F missing
  3. i hate the euro, franc was always 10 - £1 mark always 3 - £1. euro is some random number you can not convert quickly, rather annoying that and they are ugly apart from the special issues, i got a tri-metalic german 2euro (had a random copper band where the join is between the usual 2 pieces) incednetly i have the 1992 ecu set.. all i can say is thank god we arn't spending those, the highest denomination is quite big
  4. priced did increase during the euro changeover, that i can confirm as during the euro period prices were shown in both currencies, i have 2 of the same objects bout a year apart, one bought first year of euro - 4.54, next year 4.80
  5. way ipswitch are going it could be that price again come up north for sub £3 pints i dont really remember much, i only remember the large 50p's and the early days of the small 10ps (and getting a few old 5p's ) kept a few of the large 50p's including a 1985 i salvaged in 1996
  6. YH is nice, i prefer the scaling of the halfpennys, but those cost too much. speaking of halfpennys and odd lettering.
  7. ebay should get rid of those stupid £2 listings as well
  8. give em a carwheel twopence then see how gobsmacked they will be
  9. 2011 50p in change how? i think 2010 will be a nice low mintage year
  10. yes i saw that next to the 5, i have no idea what that is as there is no reason for anything but a 5 there
  11. couldn't see anything by eye and i know these can get a bit grotty. whcih is indeed the case inside the 7 this image doesnt show it, but it does show the detatched shamrock reverse, which was also around in 1856, having seen pictures of the 1856 i can also say the 6 does reach slightly higher then the 5 next to it (as the 7 is level the top part of the 6 would show over the top) but i can decide whether it is a bit of dirt or an overstrike, i dont see anything there at all to the eye to say it is dirt itis only after zooming in on photoscape i found this (i always do this to check for errors etc)
  12. i have one of those, quite nice design
  13. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/British-Two-Pound-Error-Coin-Beading-Error-/110614666737?pt=UK_Coins_BritishDecimal_RL&hash=item19c125ddf1 yet another, common error coin being bid over coin face.. really now
  14. tha happens on a few £2 these are the latest date commemoratives i have
  15. you are also excluding the george V farthings. i have a well struck and a poor struck 1918 all in EF+
  16. the early ones seems to have defects on them, i thought the mint would have fixed those by now
  17. my sister did... then spent it
  18. i have the dome £5
  19. whats the bet on some wedding coins next year
  20. i have the 1985 50p i have 2 olympic handovers 1 centenary this... missing dot between DEF and elizabeth 1 slave trade 1 trevithick 1 DNA also the Dday and a few others 50p's are meh, every time i get one it is 9/10 a boring 1997
  21. had the penny and 5- for a while. look out for a 2008 £2 with no dot at the bottom of the obverse
  22. i have a couple where the black silver tone brought out the raised design. i also like nice brown bronze.
  23. i like silver that darkens around the edges but holds good shine, shows a bit of age
  24. ahh tin farthings. but yea, a rare coin is a rare coin if you can get it in your price range then great. i had the same problems as others with getting bits and pieces for mine, took me ages to find an example of James II in my budget this was it. cost me a tenner, found it at my dealers in the foreign stuff still cost me £10 he thought it was gun money, trust me this was one of the hardest purchases i ever made £10 for what is essentialy erm.. a piece of metal is probably the best way to describe it, but yea i needed that monarch, it was in budget, it was lower grade then i wanted but when will another come up gun money is vastly overpriced, british james II is all rare so will be way out of my league. i still havn't found any commonwealth for under £20 though i think personally, if you want a coin for your collection, have a GOOD look, bargains come up in odd places, i have coins i have no right owning with my budget, 1771 farthing, 1858 small date farthing, 1958 50 franc, (probably my most valueable coin by a long chalk) to name a few. i recommend scouring ebay with a fine tooth comb there are bargains to be had, i have had my fair share even as recently as last week, of course if you learn the values of things you could buy something on the cheap then sell it on for a profit (reading this thread makes me want to sell my 50 franc and buy a nice commonwealth piece... but yea.. not going to happen, because i enjoy all my coins. now what did i hear abouth 1825 farthings?
  25. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/20p-COLLECTORS-COIN-QUEEN-ROSE-HER-HAIR-RARE-/260689753158?pt=UK_Coins_BritishDecimal_RL&hash=item3cb251f446 2006 20p with "cud" basically, 11 bids and at £4.50 as i write i have a few of these i found in my change lol
