  1. The size and weight would tell you whether it was gold or even a simple trip to the man on the market who buys gold would of done this FOC with his potions. I believe with out being slabbed it would of generated more on Ebay as a raw coin. Yes - if you review the thread I new it was gold before sending it to CGS. The reason for sending it to CGS was that there was much sceptisism on this Forum that it was a fake! Kevin So now it's been established as authentic, although field damaged, - any thoughts on value? Kevin You would get £400+ on Ebay My last guinea cost me £112 and my half guinea £50 plus my BU SA 1928 sov was £60. There are a few nice farthings there.
  2. I've been raped on common dated unc 1d's for a couple of £. I've also scored a few
  3. Looks a Greek/Celtic mule of a double groat.
  4. Colchester MD holidays have a great reputation. Finds look great. Sometimes you can search and find diddly.A bit like my experiences with beach fishing.I still do both and will continue. It is like tracking down THAT coin you want.
  5. As well as pictures dia and weight would be helpful.
  6. I've only got two confirmed hits.
  7. I've just got Bramah from Chingford and have been boring Mrs Peter with snippets of info. I will need to put up more shelves in my (dining/coin room).A good weekend is looming for me.Plus we are taking our Springer to meet 50 kinder on Sunday on the Suffolk coast can't wait. His sire has produced over 200 dogs/bitches and it will be mad.
  8. Hi Alan Buy yourself collectors coins GB 2012/13 edition for about £5...Amazon or this site. You will be amazed at the details.7 varieties listed. :)Ornate trident??? 9. Here is link http://www.colchestertreasurehunting.co.uk/home.htm
  10. The trips are run by Colchester detecting club. They offer accomodation ,food access to land. I did enquire for a days tuition with an experienced detectorist.
  11. Bob I would love it but we have a 20% population of the US and much lesser spending money. We still have a history and the ability to find 2,000 year old coins in the next field.
  12. Nice Dave Will you move it on?I have trouble doing that. Hence my dining room is now the coin room with books, cabinets, and other goodies
  13. Mrs Peter allows me malt at Xmas...I think
  14. I think a flagon of cider, some old spot liver, fois gras some free range eggs and homemade bread are lurking and a large Cuban cigar outside of course. Oh a tipple of red and coffee.
  15. When I have worked away my wife has found my Necastle Brown and my Ciders BEWARE it could happen to you
  16. I love the Scrumpy without rat. I worked with a West country Foreman who got me proper stuff every week.My knees still wobble.A plastic gallon...I blame him for my 2nd daughter. We also stayed at a farmhouse when Mrs Peter was drunk at 8am it was a wine festival and she wasn't the worst. Those Frenchies get me back. Can they cook bacon/eggs a bit of toast and a bucket of tea....can they ? Still with a full rack of red we got on well.Love em. I stll have my boules.
  17. I don't have a problem with CGS what I fear is the slabbing of modern coins especially in the US. Big bucks for a MS69. Surely the hunt is more exiting than buying an off the shelf slabbed coin.?
  18. My thoughts exactly...The coin has to have eye appeal or it won't get my attention.I don't like edge knocks or poor strikes. When I was a lad everyone wanted 1950,51 & 53 1d's now they are belly up. Thanks to Chingford (John) I now have Bramah and his take on copper from 1929.A great read.
  19. The French also eat buntings with tea towels over there heads.I once had a seafood platter which was basically alive. I've never had foie gras.Strange race
  20. I have just bought a tin of this.Mrs Peter is furious.Do I get a local virgin to share the experience? :D
  21. WHAT A TWAT.
  22. Bill from your ramblings you are educated and knowledgeable why do you need to spend over £20k to know what you have.Whack them up on the forum. It is a bit cheaper.I have been collecting for over 40 years we also have many top dealers who frequent.I would take their advice. We have dealers, book wrighters, website holders.....get the message are you a shareholder or have another interest I note that you are a chairman at the CGS forums. I love my farthings but there are 2 Colins and one is dead plus John Minshnial...I hopefully appear in the peck...ing order.
  23. Buy Acetone some cotton buds and distilled water and some I sheet to dab. CGS 95
  24. I do feel I can grade coins within my collection.I don't need to get other people to tell me what I have.
