  1. The Henry VIII is in quite poor condition, even for the poorly struck issues, so I'd hazard a guess of no more than about £12-£15. The halfpennies, let's say about £3 for the lot? As for the Roman, I won't be of much assistance. Let me know if you want to sell the Henry VIII, I'm always on the look out for new additions to my cabinet. Clive.
  2. That's exactly why I checked it out with you first. I became suspicious that perhaps it wasn't a proof. You confirmed my suspicion and I have altered the listing accordingly. What more can I do? You did the right thing altering the listing Ron, but in future I would suggest not listing a coin as a proof unless you are sure it is one. If your unsure why not ask on this forum and someone will help prior to listing the coin. Hus Exactly my point, cheers Hus. Don't advertise it as one unless you are sure it is one. Clive.
  3. Holger, I sold you that Winchester coin by the way! Sorry, I can't offer any more assistance on this coin at the moment but will ask on of my friends for you. I should reply by tomorrow evening. Regards, Clive.
  4. I also had my suspicions, due to this I have retracted my bids. I'm sure that this is not the first time I've retracted a bid on this seller's auctions. Think I'll steer clear in future. Many thanks for the confirmations gentlemen. Clive.
  5. Holger, I'd like to be a bit of a psychic here, I'm guessing that you have a Class 3b penny, Iordan on Winchester... Let me know if I'm right, if it helps, you bought it on the 11th November by my estimation. Clive.
  6. Get a piece of plyboard or MDF and then superglue the coins onto the board, attach legs and then place a glass top on. Hey presto! Tempted to do the same here, got quite a few pre-Decimal and foreign coins which would be a nice touch. Might look a bit odd though! Clive.
  7. This site should be of great use to you: www.tclayton.demon.co.uk/coins.html Regarding your mint question, the quote from the government website reads; "The history of the Royal Mint itself stretches back over 1100 years. There is an unbroken link from the scattered workshops of the moneyers of Anglo-Saxon London to a single mint within the Tower of London, from a purpose-built premises at Tower Hill to the huge modern coining plant in South Wales." So our coins today are minted in South Wales whereas most of the coins I own were minted at London, Canterbury and Lincoln. Plus dozens of other mints. Cheers, Clive.
  8. I'm still bamboozled by the price that this coin fetched!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/700-Yr-Old-ENGLISH-L...1QQcmdZViewItem I could make a very profitable living in New Mexico! Clive.
  9. Sniping has always been a debated topic, I think it's a bit harsh but then again it is perfectly legal and acceptable. Most of the coins that I bid on go up in the last minute, I put most of my bids in manually within the last 8 seconds or so. That does mean that I win quite a few coins though, if only flea-bay had a rating for Power-Buyer! Clive.
  10. Contact Mary Hinton at the BM and she'll be happy to arrange an appointment with you, I've met with her many times and she is very helpful. Mary Hinton. Administrator Department of Coins and Medals British Museum. by email: coins@thebritishmuseum.ac.uk by telephone: +44 (0)20 7323 8607 Kindest Regards, Clive.
  11. All depends on condition.
  12. It is very nice but a tad expensive! I might wait until I see on on flea bay. Clive.

    what?

Simple answer no I can't see anything special about it. Unless its a gold trial strike which he's forgot to mention. Ooops... I just put a bid in!
  14. A sovereign measures about 21mm in diameter whereas a half-soveregin measures about 19mm so I think that it is a fake or play money coin. Any photos? Kindest Regards, Clive.
  15. Pulled from an eBay listing: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Zealand-3-pence-...1QQcmdZViewItem I'm not able to help on dates, Aidan would be able to help... Wouldn't he Chris? Regards, Clive.
  16. In truly Fleur-de-Coin state, i.e. no wear and absolutely perfect then you'd be looking at about £100 but an average set tends to sell for about £55 on eBay so £70 sounds like a good offer! Any photos of the coins? Regards, Clive.
  17. Aidan is a top bloke, so knowledgeable and kind. He always keeps his opinions to him self, a great guy. Anyway, B&Q eh? I hear they've got a light bulb amnesty on now, sounds as if they're saying that "If you get caught possessing large quantities of light bulbs you could get convicted with possession with intent to supply..." http://www.london.gov.uk/lightbulbs/ But anyway, whatever term you use I'm sure we'll understand!
  18. I assume you mean Commonwealth nation coins when you say British Foreign?
  19. Hammered coins are real coins! Whatever you decide to collect, enjoy it! I know sure do! Clive.
  20. The H stands for Heaton mint, based in Birmingham. The 1922 and 1926 are not rare but are the scarcest of the George V pennies. Photos would be helpful, and do you mean Commonwealth coins? Kindest Regards, Clive.
  21. I assume it does Gary... It's supposed to be via invitation only so if you've got it then you're a "valued customer."
  22. Yes, I take full responsibility for all the spelling mistakes! I wasn't implying that, I was saying that it's a shame eBay think you might be breaching copyright.
  23. They have tried to improve their customer support but it is still shocking, I haven't sold much high value stuff, yet... I have a few hammereds I wish to part with that should bring in a bit of cash. I know what you mean, I know one guy who's Lighthouse capsules were pulled of eBay due to them being "counterfeit"... Who would bother faking coin capsules? I know about your eBook listings, it's a shame as you are genuine and have edited all of them as far as I'm aware.
  24. Chris, eBay have a customer support phone number which they have given to their valued cutomers: "You're one of our most valued eBay customers and your satisfaction is very important to us." "(This phone number is only for members who've been invited to participate so please don't give it to others.)" It's because I've spent a lot recently that they've given me this phone number, I rang up the number, they were based in Ireland, and this woman asked me to spell my username. It took me 7 tries and I eventually hung-up on her... I bet if I didn't spend so much they'd toss me in the bin of "not-so-valued" customers, they are still money grabbing crooks in my opinion though. Clive.
