  1. Are they the same size? Could one not be a sixpence and the other a shilling? Clive.
  2. Not much is known about specific moneyers, only those listed in the Domesday and yours are much earlier than that! There doesn't appear to be any rare moneyers on your coins for the issues, so you just noticed these whilst walking? Have you gone back with a metal detector since? I know it's cruel to ask but are you interested in selling? I'm after some better examples for my collection and these could be the tickets, I pay very good prices too! BTW guys, I'm YOC (Ye Olde Collector) I just have a different username for eBay and this forum. Feel free to email me, I can easily get them recorded appropriately for you or I can tell you how to as I'm a good friend with the gentleman that does it. Kindest Regards, Clive.
  3. Those are nice coins, email me at clive@historiccoinage.com and I'll see what I can do. Do you have any better photos? These are bang in the middle of my collecting period, are you interested in selling? Kindest Regards, Clive.
  4. Happy New Year everyone! - Clive.
  5. A warm welcome to you Joe! I have yet to experience the rekindling of my collecting flame, I have never stopped! But as time goes on I will have to stop. I look forward to getting to know you and your collection. - Clive.
  6. I don't know about that Richard, I'm just offering my own opinion.
  7. I don't think that it could be Taunton as only Elfric minted there. Taunton on Henry I coins is "TANTU" That "P" looks like a blundered "T" and so it might read "CANTA" "Pilde" at Canterbury is very confusing as there was no "Pilde" for Henry I mints... So perhaps Winedi, Willem, Wulfwine or Wulsi. I have a feeling that it might be Wulsi but it is an odd coin.
  8. From the emails I think that this coin is of Canterbury mint, "PILDE ON CANT", Spink 1265/B.M.C. 4.
  9. haven't been on here in yoinks! Been spending my time on CoinPeople and CoinsGB. Tazdog, if you want you can send some large scans to historiccoinage@coinpeople.com and I will do my best. I recently discovered a new moneyer for Henry I on one of my pennies so I should be able to help, if not I know people who can. I look forward to receiving your emails. Many thanks for the update Richard!!
  10. Here are images that Derek wants added. Will let him do the talking! All the best, Clive.
  11. Sure. Do you need help on anchoring images? All the best, Clive.
  12. I'm not too keen on Edward I, but I have probably bid against you on one or two I prefer coins from Henry I to Henry III All the best, Clive.
  13. Geordie582, The thing is I mainly buy from eBay Although I do buy from local metal detectorists and fairs, what is your speciality/interest? All the best, Clive.
  14. Hus, I have listed the coins with the best possible pictures that my camera can take! I should invest in a new camera. None of my coins were/are listed as Uncirculated, just trying to be as honest as possible. Grading Milled coinage is a big difference to Hammered coinage! I only started collecting Hammered coinage about 7 months ago and have come across several rare specimens and one presumed unknown example as of yet. I have an error Edward I/II Penny, I am surprised that it did not go for more, the joys of eBay I suppose! Thanks for your warm welcome, will try and share my knowledge and passion of Hammered coinage with teh group. All the best, Clive.
  15. Chris, Many thanks, I will try MR. Varnham. Do you yourself collect? If you were a collector would you bid on my coins now? Many thanks, I appreciate it. It is not often that I sell milled coins. All the best, Clive.
  16. Chris, I understand where you are coming from, Milled Coinage is not my strong point. I am more of a hammered man! I have changed my listings so they are more sensibly graded and hope that you like them! I am a bit stuck with one of my hammered coins, met with Martin Allen at the Fitzwilliam and Mary Hinton at the British Museum. Can you think of anyone else that could help me with Norman Coinage? All the best, Clive.
  17. I know but nowadays grading on eBay has become sooo corrupt that there is tough competition. People bid on coins with no photos and believe the seller that it is UNC, my coins are closer to the grades I chose but still they are nice coins. I also believe that buyers should make their own judgment from the photos provided and bid accordingly. I am just giving my opinion. Nice site by the way!
  18. Hey, I'm new around here but have several of Chris' books and know of him on eBay and so thought that I'd pay a visit! Here are a few things that I am parting with on eBay! Feel free to take a look! 1911 Trade Dollar 1887 Double Florin - Great Condition! 1889 Crown - Fantastic Condition! 1887 Florin - Great Condition Best Regards, Clive.
