  1. I must confess that I, too, have been hoarding. I'm really focusing on high quality material now and have picked up some top examples of Saxon pennies but there's not the constant stream there was a couple of years ago.
  2. There are a few antiques dealers at the Barbican in Plymouth and there are many coins there, but don't expect them to be reasonably priced.
  3. Yes I thought it would be comprehensive when I read Rob's post. 18 pages would be more than my autobiography. Is it still possible to download ? Many are online - here's the download link.
  4. Just found out it's closed. The Royal Mint no longer do tours and the exhibitions seem to mainly be at the Tower of London.
  5. The Royal Mint Museum is in Llantrisant.
  6. Everything sounds so much better in German.
  7. He also says he is not too sure of its age. Does anyone know when these were made? If so they could answer his question and point out it is a modern copy at the same time. Just a thought. He replied to my message and removed it. Amazing!
  8. Change of what - tabard? religion? wife? Change in degree of sanity, I'd assume.
  9. Henry VIII found in change...
  10. I've had hammered coins parcel taped to cards leaving horrible residue and fragile hammered coins put in padded envelopes loose. There are some people out there who lack common sense...
  11. It's free. A junior hacksaw did the trick.
  12. Ashmore coins described as Ashmore coins should not be complained about and forced to be removed as they are reproductions and labelled as such, although not explicitly but with the term 'Ashmore'. Perhaps Ashmore reproduction would be a better term.
  13. What is the mark on that museum replica, Does anyone know? I'm not sure. Whether it's an intentional mark or a fault made on the casting of them I do not know.
  14. Oh my. That just fills me with confidence...
  15. There are collectors who have an Ashmore collection, but I'm not one of them. However, I have heard of reproductions of Ashmores being sold. Some further reading is: Finn, P. April 2000: 'Ashmore Replicas - Revisited' Numismatic Circular, (London, Seaby). p. 50-54.
  16. Well, maybe three. But it's a contentious one that I know's been raised on here many-a-time.
  17. I want to take it out for two reasons. 1) The C in NICHOLE looks like an E but it's hard to tell through the plastic. 2) Most British collectors prefer their hammered coins 'raw'.
  18. I'll bear that in mind! I'll post my results and will try it later this week. It's more of an experiment than anything as it's not an overly expensive coin.
  19. I've only gone and bought myself a slabbed coin. I must admit I was intrigued by how a hammered coin would appear slabbed, as I've never seen one in person. But I did buy it for the coin and so I'm now contemplating the best method of breaking the coin out, especially as the NNC do not seem to be as respected as other TPGs. I'm thinking of using a small hacksaw to open the slab but would welcome any suggestions.
  20. Great news! You must be glad to have a definitive answer.
  21. Much like this, the Gairsoppa gimmick.
  22. I don't think the legend would support SWEIN ON SNOTIG judging by what letters I can see. If I had to say, I'd go with Paien on Nico, although this spelling of the moneyer is more often associated with Northampton rather than Lincoln.
  23. An obvious replica, described as maybe a replica yet people still bid high on it...
