  1. It looks more like a milled copy to me. As you said, Chris, it's too rounded.
  2. Yes! I was quoting Coincraft who dont seem to discriminate between types of issue each year.
  3. I've just completed a trawl through a jar of about £80's worth of 20p's and have come up with only 4 1992's, only one of the smaller head. So I guess you would say they are scarce, even the large heads, even though there were over 31 million minted!
  4. Smith's is still reluctant to stock coin books (at least in Whitehaven). Wonder why?
  5. Ah! Youth! Congratulations, Make the most of the opportunities that appear!
  6. Thanks for that! My first guess was right, I won't be using the system!!
  7. You guys are talking double Dutch to me (or should it be double Yank?) when you throw these M grades about. Where do you get a definative list of these grades? (not that I'd ever use them!)
  8. Just a thought! I know our American friends can take degrees in hot dog baking and nappy changing, but which university awards degrees in coin grading? Whence come the "Professional Graders"? Another puzzle (to me anyway), Why so many grades? I presume all graders have electron microscopes to discern minute differences?
  9. The important factor has to bge the legibility of the legend on both sides. Hammered coins were often clipped and such examples do have a place in collections. The value would depend on: - first - rarety second - legibility third - strike That's in my opinion anyway!
  10. We need pictures before we can say anything. You could e-mail them to me and I'll post them.
  11. Yes! me too. Congratulations, though I'm jealous. 21 is such a long way away (in the wrong direction)!
  12. Take care! There are bound to be a fair few forgeries about, once the market picks up.
  13. Guess we can't out-think the scientists!!
  14. I have complained before about the numismatic desert in Cumbria. Sure! if the likes of Chris sold Hammered, then I'd at least look at them. However I find a lot of dealers, away from fairs, charge too much, so I must take my chances on the net. So I may get stung on the odd rare, occasion (I do know a little about the subject!) but it is worth the risk to get the odd 'bargain'. I especially look out for the mis-attributed coin, something that occurs quite often. If I get the chance, you'll see me at fairs, but adding the cost of fuel today, means I really would have to find bargains!!
  15. I have only had the one bad experience, when a seller claimed they did not get the money, even when it was a cheque that was duly cashed! I am awaiting delivery of a recalcitrant coin, but that may just be slow post (or slow seller)!
  16. Another aspect of e-bay to beware of - having paid for the coin you have won, you wait for a week or so for delivery - in vain - to be reminded "Post is at buyers risk" and "I sent it on .....". But who knows if it existed in the first place, and the picture of the coin you bid on has come from a book or a previous seller's post???
  17. There is a recognised record for "Human powered flight". Basically a glider fitted with a propeller driven from a modified bicycle. I have no idea how long they remained aloft, but it can't have been for long, although I do believe someone tried to cross the channel in one. I don't know if he succeeded!
  18. I guess I was stupid when a teenager, and I don't seem to have changed!
  19. Don't worry Geoff, we all stay in our teens! It's more comfortable there! Hope you weren't involved in the mayhem yesterday?
  20. They tell me that the next 75 are easier!
  21. Lots of the Edwards and a fair few Celtic. Too rich for my pocket though I did bid a few times. Still a lot around at the moment.
  22. In other words,- your dotty!
  23. Searching e-bay, yesterday, I noticed there are a lot of hammered English coins on the various sites. Is someone disposing of their collection?
  24. "I've got a list of Principle Roman Emperors AD 41-420.....and how they met their fate....wierd lot. " If you want weird, try the Byzantine lot! They might be Roman in descent but they improved the art of evil and weird to a great extent!
