  1. Scotia from the tribe Scotii I believe
  2. Whoever was trading the coin. You'll find quarters too! They also tried to gain money by paring a little off each coin that came their way, which led, eventually, to people weighing all coins!!
  3. Cut halves of hammered silver were legitimate circulated currency and as such are just as collectable as the whole coin. Value depends on so many varibles that giving a rule would be foolish. How about just halving the value of the whole coin? Afterall it is half a coin! But I must say that in some cases it will be possible that a genuine cut halfpenny is scarcer than the original!!
  4. I think this is a storm in a teacup! Many learned tomes state that " the sun ratiates", but could hardly claim copyright over Facts!
  5. Anyone got a cold shower handy?
  6. I wouldn't think the Royal mint has a copyright on the definition of symbols of any type
  7. I have the time----I don't have the money!!!
  8. One thing that bothers me is that, some time ago I recall, that E-bay promised to insist that 'reproduction' would have to be included in the title of all such coins. Nothing happened!!
  9. Are you turning from numismatics to bibliophile?
  10. It must be ignorance! No-one would fall for that fraud ........or would they?
  11. Tom Goodheart - Wouldn't paranumismatists be sky diving coin collectors??
  12. Up-date! Had atrip to Mexico - and picked up a Morgan dollar and Kennedy half! Also completed the quarter series up to date (California). Strange way to go about things???
  13. Thanks for that! but as I said, there is already a 'fairy godfather' in the US that will supply me as required! By the way! I'm still looking for information aout the coin shown in my avatar???
  14. As we have to feed the laundry machines with quarters, I do have an advantage! I also have a US citizen looking for me. I now have all bar the Maine quarter of those issued up to and including 2004. The new one, Connecticut, is out this month, but I think I'll be lucky to find one. My American buddy says he'll send me all those minted in the future as they come out, so I'll end up with a full set! About the only coin series that I can say that !
  15. It seems there are only a few of us making the same rounds!
  16. Hmm! I'll be watching this to see if you have any takers, as I have a few I could sell
  17. I'm 1/4 of the way through a 4 week stay in the US and was struck by the number of different quarters in circulation. They are issuing one for each state at a rate of 5 per year. I've managed to collect, from change, 25 types, with only 5 missing from the sequence to this year (I haven't seen any 2005 yet). I was just wondering if there would be any on restricted area issue. A new American friend bought me the Whitman folder for them so I can keep tabs on the issues. ( boy! are they friendly and generous!! ). Im off to Canada for 2 weeks after this holiday in the US, so will cast around to see whats on offer there. Oh! yes! The sun is great!
  18. That's certainly shorter odds!
  19. Roulette is a safer bet!
  20. Think of all the lovely coins you could have bought with the money!
  21. Are you going to mention the Nazi fakes?
  22. My offer still stands!
  23. Wonder if he'd swop for my Churchill crown valued at Oh! say, £500,000
  24. Oxidisation used to be correct when I was a lad, but then lots of words have been shortened since then. Laziness??? By the way, you should point out that not all the caveats above apply to ancient coins!
