I wonder if we could get the Royal Mint to send literature in opaque envelopes, as the plastic wrap they use now shouts 'collector'.

I think wybrit hit the nail on the head when he said "slabbed coins more than return the investment made to grade them if and when it is time to sell." I have yet to meet a British Numismatist that is interested in renumeration. All have been totally immersed in the history. Perhaps as I am a Celtic/Roman/Saxon/hammered collector I am biassed? And slabbing has no part in hammered as the grade is subjective.

I was just reading, over on Coinpeople site, of a theft of a coin collection, and it brought to mind an old hobby horse of mine. Whenever dealers send coins ( and other valuables) through the post, they take the opportunity to advertise on the packaging. Even just a return address showing the business of the supplier gives any casual observer a good idea of the sort of items to be found in the home of the recipient. It is obvious that any such packaging should be destroyed completely and not through the re-cycling system. But couldn't the advertising be stopped at source, reducing the danger?

Don't forget, It's the great British public that are allowing this virus of PC to infect our lives. You get what you deserve!!??

I think it's probably Edward VI penny. I can't see any use of that mint mark by other Edwards!

Here's an example( some of you will have seen this before) of a copy of the English coinage of Edward III, c 1340. It is of Count William of Namur, a territory now parts of France, Belgium & Germany. Probably pierced by English autorities and meant for melting down. I'm still looking for other examples! Omnicoin

A very nice coin! But most of the hammered of this time are off centre and weak so finding one like that is unusual!

Don't forget, hammered are common in most countries and there is a great crossover between countries,too. This makes the subject very confusing at first! This is a coin of Namur (a territory covering Belgium,France and Luxembourg and copies Edward of England coins. Here! Here! There are too many people about, these days, that want everyone to toe their particular line and the right to say what you think becomes a crime. Politicians rule by fear, of one sort or the other, and it's about time everyone realised that. As an aside, this is a quote from David Blunkett (in the Mail on Monday, shock horror!) " All we politicians can do is work our hardest to create a better world for ourselves and for those who come after us". He means the following politicians of course!

I'd vote for anyone who will reflect the voter's opinions in Parliament - but there is no such beast! ALL polititions have the same priorities, 1. Power for themselves 2. To back up the party line 3. To make as much money as possible. 4. To placate the local party HQ. And that's it! The voter is just a necessary irritation.
