  1. you realise that some e-bay traders will now be diligently machining 'flaws' on a variety of coins! I await the appearance of such on the web site
  2. What's the old adage? "If if's and and's were pots and pans there'd be no need for tinkers" Well, tinkers have gone, perhaps another "if" to think about?
  3. I must admit to 'losing' all the memorised facts on English Monarchy. Very annoying having to look it all up everytime!
  4. Wow! Fit to be published! Thanks for all the info, Kraznaya! I have a couple of Scottish hammered but poor grade, enough to cause problems in allocation! Still it's fun trying.!
  5. What is the rarest coin you've seen mutilated? An enamelled 1698 OCTAVO halfcrown (R6) Another Hole Not exactly rare but vandalism any way!!
  6. I'm sure that hat was one I left in a Taxi in new York in 1999!
  7. I was about to bid - until I noticed the 'post & pack' price!
  8. What makes you so sure it is a forgery, Chris? The mints of that era weren't exactly always correct!? It also looks like the legend says " CAROLUS 1I"?
  9. I've just noticed, I've linked to the whole collection on Omnicoin. Sorry! I'll do better next time - hopefully?!
  10. If you correct the spine error on Collectors Coins GB (Great Brittain) will that make my copy a collectors item??
  11. Here's an example( some of you will have seen this before) of a copy of the English coinage of Edward III, c 1340. It is of Count William of Namur, a territory now parts of France, Belgium & Germany. Probably pierced by English autorities and meant for melting down. I'm still looking for other examples! Omnicoin
  12. William the Lion 1165-1214
  13. A very nice coin! But most of the hammered of this time are off centre and weak so finding one like that is unusual!
  14. That was me!---Forgot to log in!!
  15. Don't forget, hammered are common in most countries and there is a great crossover between countries, too. This makes the subject very confusing at first! This is a coin of Namur (a territory covering Belgium,France and Luxembourg and copies Edward of England coins. To complicate it even more, they were in circulation in England! http://www.coinpeople.com/forums/album_pic...php?pic_id=4004
  16. You're lucky! I have none to lose!!
  17. Here! Here! There are too many people about, these days, that want everyone to toe their particular line and the right to say what you think becomes a crime. Politicians rule by fear, of one sort or the other, and it's about time everyone realised that. As an aside, this is a quote from David Blunkett (in the Mail on Monday, shock horror!) " All we politicians can do is work our hardest to create a better world for ourselves and for those who come after us". He means the following politicians of course!
  18. I'd vote for anyone who will reflect the voter's opinions in Parliament - but there is no such beast! ALL polititions have the same priorities, 1. Power for themselves 2. To back up the party line 3. To make as much money as possible. 4. To placate the local party HQ. And that's it! The voter is just a necessary irritation.
  19. I tried the 'Political Compass' which told me to vote Liberal! No chance!!
  20. Didn't Steve Hartley write a book on fishing?
  21. Being in Cumbria, I'm out of the loop but there may come a time I'll be near one of the fairs. So, very good idea Mitch!
  22. Nope! Just tried the site again for the third time and it's still off. Something major???
  23. I checked in the member's forum but I'll be keeping an eye on this one too. Back from the "excited States of America". (You can tell I don't think too much of the US emmigration service!). Don't you think that coins like 'sede vacante' are really medals? I don't want to start a war, but, although I collect 'commemoratives' on the side, I've always thought of them as such. But then, I prefer circulated coins to the 'pretty' versions!!!
  24. I'm back from the Excited States of America! Sorry! but that is what it's being called by a lot of "winter Texans" as long time holiday makers are called. (or 'Snow Birds' as the yanks call them) Anyway, to business! Shouldn't this thread be 'open' and not just in the member's forum? It would probably do more good there!?!
  25. What a wonderful source of information, and should be compulsary reading for all numismatists!
