  1. Did he/she clean it with a file?
  2. No. 4 is CRB 318 in Rotographic's Roman Base Metal Coins. Spes is walking left while hitching up her skirt and holding a flower. circa 271. A good picture of the reverse type is seen her.Spes The coin is too well struck around the hair to be a 'barbarous copy'. I haven't checked Rotographic's Roman Silver Coins for the others, but I'd suggest it would be the first stop! Your Probus is well illustrated here Probus
  3. Judging from the telephone numbers and the slogan, it is an advertisement not a coin. A restaurant named "School Dinners" ?
  4. Ta! I will!
  5. Thanks! Sylvester! I've wanted a list of the American overcomplicating convolutions for some time. At least now I have something to refer to when browsing "Coinpeople"!
  6. Maybe she's Rumanian???
  7. Spanish Find This was the result of another visit to Spain, by accident. I came across a small market in "pueblo blanca" somewhere near Mireara. I know it's for use by Portugese Azores, but a good result, none the less!
  8. I'm off to Spain for a couple of weeks soon (Alcudia) and was wondering if there are any coins I should be looking out for? I don't collect European as a rule, but any oddity, rarety, or just 'talking point' is always added to my Sundry coins!
  9. Daily Mail Link Sorry! I should have posted this earlier.
  10. I wonder which Eastern country this comes from!! <_
  11. I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the stunning find, reported in the Daily Mail yesterday of a Coenwulf gold 'mancus' penny. It is something everyone dreams of! I'm not surprised the museums thought it was a forgery. It is in beautiful condition. It's the first time I've seen the denomination of 'mancus'.
  12. Looks like you have been targeted by another tout, this time for something called Phentermine.
  13. I rallied in one of those - and managed RAF champion status! They don't crash well, though!
  14. You need to post a picture for identification. Indication of size would help too! Seaby's 'Scottish and the islands coins and their values' would help, though it is out of print I occasionally get it from the local library. Someone else has it out at the moment, here, but your local section may have it!
  15. Great! I'll be looking out in E-bay and Amazon. I'll let you know how I get on (though I'll be out of the country for a while!)
  16. Thanks for that! I have all the UK books and the Krause but have none of the US or Canadian - despite having collections from both areas! You've given me something to look out for.
  17. Kuhli, what's your references?
  18. Hear! Hear! My thoughts exactly! Under the general heading of 'PC', minorities are now running this country with their kooky ideas. I just can't see an end to it. At 76, I don't think it will affect me very much, but I despair for my children, grandchildren and great grand-children. How far in the future it will go is anyone's guess. Global warming has a real competitor for ending civilisation!
  19. Basically, I mistrust all politicians (& my son in law is one!) . Money gets power & privilege or Power gets money and privilege, either way the voter is the last thing on their minds once they are in!. You may claim Conservative credentials, Sylvester, but your wishes would fit more with Stalin that Cameron. More state control?? No way>
  20. As long as Labour has the Scots to keep them and they continue to tinker with the constitutional makeup of this country, I can't see us ever getting Labour out! I also think that all the 'scandals' visited on the other parties are too convenient not to have been started by the left. Typical left tactics.
  21. I'll keep you posted!
  22. That's a thought, too! I'll play with Paintshop Pro for a while and see what results I can get first. It's not that user friendly but we'll see
  23. Hmm! Something to think about - maybe my next birthday???
  24. I've tried that, but I'm not satisfied. In fact, I have a cut down plastic milk bottle as a diffuser, but the shadow of the camera remains. I'm talking about photographing, for instance, a £5 recent issue in uncirculated condition. Quite a mirror effect!
  25. My problem is the reflection of the camera when photographing highly polished coins. I know tilting the coin or camera could prevent this, but the elongation resulting is not pleasing.
