    Have you noticed the increasing use of electronic automatic bidding on E-bay? I was watching a Richard I penny today, that was at £41 for the last few days and up to only <1minute to go, when the price suddenly reached £68! I reckon it is probably the future of purchasing in auctions.

    Because coins of the series I save are scarce (or expensive) I must admit to saving the crown size series (from Victoria). This means I have to slavishly buy all new issues Never mind. I will probably put the lot on fleabay as a collection someday!

    If those are genuine, they are the best examples I have seen. Are they registered with the authorities? YOC would be the best man to answer your query, as he saves those.

    I ran a 'Rallying News' back in the 50/60's when I was active in the sport. The first flush was great - plenty of people to offer news, information & ideas. Within a year all that had dried up and I was left to fill in with cartoons & jokes. So it is never as easy as people think - right Chris?

    I tried Coin Monthly for a year, but cancelled my subscription because, like a lot of forums, seemed to be stuck post 1600's with a few Greek & Roman to try to show a wide span of cover. Not useful to a hammered collector I used the Coin Clinic but was disappointed with the results.

(No hammered coins in there by any chance?) You couls also find dealers via the coin fair in Birmingham as discussed on the thread "Coin Clubs & Fairs'.

    Yes! I do know of Wildwinds but I was just wondering how far the Index had progressed. I was trying to list all Celtic types known.

    I got burned when I sold my first collection to buy my first computer ( a Sinclair, it was that long ago!) I had ammassed a great collection of early Victorian & Edward VII silver from Malta, mostly EF, where it was in circulation at the time. I also had a number of Saxon and Norman pennies that I'd give my eye teeth for now. The money only just covered the cost of the computer, which, although well used in learning programming, never lived up to the quality of the collection lost.

    I agree on the value of artifacts. Should surely be worth more than Beckam or Posh?

    I agree! The first. Photographing coins is a difficult past-time. (Especially UNC or Proof!). If anyone has the definitive answer, please post it!!!

    Just scanned your book, Chris, on Base metal Roman coins & on page 28 there is a dead ringer for this coin. Given as Marcus Aurelius period 3 Commemorative CRB165. Have a shufty!

    I'm agreeing with you HC. I just want to point out that there is more not known about our early coinage than is recorded. All the publications are merely opinions when you get down to it! My interest, Edward I/II/III provides a plethora of random marks, pellets, reversed letters etc. that have really only been guessed at! They say they are "moneyers marks" to show who and when. Who Really knows?

    Here we go! If the 'P' at the end is a blundered 'T' then the first letter is surely a 'T' making it even more obscure! "TILDE" in place of "PILDE". (Not know either)
