  1. Well Done with your 1703 Paddy, please be sure to show yours once it arrives, Many thanks "H"
  2. Hello Paddy and thank you, I did think the Anna would have been the more interesting of the trio, I did have a look see and yet nothing I could find,
  3. For @Citizen H, Yes, it looks like there are problems with a number of the letters on the 1776 two pence, but that is not scarce for that era. Interesting, but not changing the value enormously. Ah so Paddy, any ideas of the value, I need to mention this isn't a profitable exercise, I've never had these looked at and better I do this now then let the other bin these in my absence, I can remember they would have been 50p or £1 around 1992.... sad that this comes down to how much they are worth but this is the way things go,........ BWM 1914/18 medal was scrapped in the 1970's the price of silver went though the roof and the veterans wanted the money....there a lot of 14/18 Trios missing the BWM sad but the world spins and moves on and over everything..... Thanking you all... "H"
  4. Imperfections Hello Paddy & DaveG38 I did use a magnifying glass and I was tired when viewing.... on using the computer to in large the pictures you can see that there's imperfections, I have read the forum and talk of worn dies, I have now seen the 1 that looks like a miss print 7 ( the date for GIII would correctly be 1776, not 1716 as quite rightly pointed out by Paddy, ) Also the letter R also may be miss print.... this is all very new to me, incredible as well as very interesting... the smaller coins will be a real challenge. please take a look and see what you make of it, many thanks "H"
  5. in small amounts....Maundy? Victoria 1832, silver 2d George III 1716, silver 2d Anna 1703, Silver 4d
  6. Hello Paddy, this small group is the worse from my grandfathers hoard, I took it that they were Maundy 3d... as I have 20 (Believed to be Maundy coins) that I bought over the years 1992 up until 2015... one has a note written by me saying Victorian Colonial, Silver Coin 1 1/2 1839.... so this I guess this is what was bought as Maundy in error..? me thinks this was the end period of buying!?!??! oh heck 20 to follow ......to be checked and confirmed..... I'll tell you I thought this coin collecting would easier than the medals.... Not so....! Many Thanks "H"
  7. unfortunately even at a beginners entry level some coins are best kept away from a collection In my world I always like for a second opinion... just...Just in case I'm wrongly to write these off to the silver scrap pot.... N.B the 1918 has a buckle to it. although looks ok. all and any comments please do fire away. many many thanks "H"
  8. Happy Friday, so I do try to find these in order, a order maybe beginning to settle...... maybe??? yesterday I found 3 James I errrrmmm shillings? these will follow on and I need to confess the James I look like they've been looked at during the time spent with me and I have a indication what information has already been discovered about them.... I save these for later as it looks like an interesting one, so.. George III 1819 George IIII 1821 Crowns... I very nearly posted this as George III Crowns, I did check the dates and who was around, aha! correction G III & G IIII Rubbed and bashed? any ideas as to the values would be use.... Also1819 was a very turbulent and unsettled time in England: The Peterloo Massacre took place at St Peter's Field, Manchester, Lancashire, England, on Monday 16 August 1819. Eighteen people died and 400–700 were injured when cavalry charged into a crowd of around 60,000 people who had gathered to demand the reform of parliamentary representation. Blood Heck Sabres at Dawn !
  9. Wow, the workmanship is incredible, Busy..but incredible.... I'm sure I don't have have one... but I'm still working through them, Cheers "H"
  10. Hello Paddy, I seem to think I had a period of luck finding these regularly I knew they were silver so was buying them up, it did make me wonder if it was a Half Crown so now Ive been corrected all of its its information is going onto a tag so I can keep everyone in the family updated. many thanks "H"
  11. the obverse of both,
  12. hello again, looking through the layers of coins ( all in pockets) 4 more crowns have been found, now someone more organised would have put them in groups and some sort of an order, I didnt!!!!! of late I had a bit of a issue with memory and its hopefully going to get better...... 2 for today... 1892 Victorian Jubilee Head silver crown slightly more dinged so I guess value £30... following on from yesterday. the other 1892 is slightly smaller (Half Crown?) and different obverse. Value? its much better condition but have been circulated, any guidance greatly welcome. All the best "H"
  13. I really like the good side and at least there's continuous with in my collecting of coins, 🤣 its all history and I'm learning, Cheers "H"
  14. Hello and thank you, I was left alone so I guess I felt for it, one half decent side is better than none... I keep looking and I do have some more to show so you never know......many thanks Rgds "H"
  15. Hello, so with what's been talked about with my recent shown this hopefully might be right....... for your consideration I'd like to share with you King Charles I Shilling (12p) circa 1625 - 1649 its been sheared & buckled made at which mint ? I seem to recall this was a left over from a sale of a collection that had been broken, again it wouldn't have been that much. any ideas of its value will be greatly welcome. All the very best "H"
  16. I Really also like the tone to the 1892, so please these are correct, Many thanks "H"
  17. Awwwww thats great to hear, I really thought i was on a downward turn with some of the others. historically I was just buying blind and a real magpie, this has been another real great help, really thank you all for the time taken and the input, Rgds "H"
  18. the outer edge...
  19. Todays listing, I have a case of were the coins have been stored over the years, and as they have been shown and Identified I will hopefully gain some sort of order, life will be easier? So I hope that I can get things right before showing and so far this what I make of todays coin,,,,,, Silver Crown of King George the III dated 1820. The obverse shows a laureate head portrait of George II by Benedetto Pistrucci. His name appears below the truncation of the portrait’s neck and Pistrucci’s name again appears on the ground beneath the horse. this much I manage to look up. the rest Id really appreciate your consideration all and any comments welcome, ideas about value also can help. all the very best "H"
  20. Well I never.... a Counterfeit living or occurring at the same time, I did go an have a look see CooooooooL! The Treason Act 1415 (4 Hen. 5. Stat. 1. c. 6) was an Act of the Parliament of England which made clipping coins high treason, punishable by death. (It was already treason to counterfeit coins. ) The act was repealed by the Treason Act 1553, and then revived again in 1562. The act originally only protected English coins, but was later extended in 1575 to cover foreign coins "current" within England........ Also..... Treason is perhaps the most infamous crime in English Legal History, due in part to the horrendous punishment that came with it but also due to its often strong political importance. The punishment that was often inflicted was the drawing of the traitor across rough ground by horse, he would then be hanged to within an inch of death, followed by being disembowelled, burnt, and beheaded. Your remaining carcass was cut into four pieces. The punishment of being hung, drawn and quartered has morbidly captured the public’s imagination for many centuries. Bloody heck!
  21. obverse side,
  22. Firstly, Many thanks & apologies, Thank you goes without explaining, its a great help since all that I'm having to deal with since the stroke, Having the coins has been useful as I needed to focus on an interest and helps keep my head working and a nice distraction. Apologies, before it happens I hope that all I have shown over the last few days isn't becoming a plague of a misdirection and uninteresting gathers hoard that is I guess a magpie approach to formulating what could be loosely be called a collection. all I can now say is let see what we can do with this in the near future ......Really I do thank you for of this. so the first sheet was completed with 1 fake so far so good. enjoying the history lesson and being able to show what I've found over the years. these I think are pretty safe, 1676 Charles II Silver Crown 1892 Victoria Sliver Crown both are dinged and rubbed, the Victoria I really like the tone, the Charles it seems to have writing around the outer edge and Ive really just noted, is this just on this coin or other? your opinions will be really welcome, I can take the bad with the good / great news, if you happen to know the value please do tell.
  23. Ah, no wasn't me, and yes kept just in case it comes in handy..... on one Sunday afternoon trudging around a hot field looking at stalls that are best described as one stop away a rubbish dump... I happen upon a paste table with carrier bags loaded with bones... turns out the fella is house clearance service and a loft at a doctors house was cleared, all sorts of medical equipment and.... stuff was sold. last knockings at 3pm find what you want and make an offer..... my kinda chat! so skull was sold to his mate and the rest had to go as his wife didn't want it back in the house...by order! so manage to find the right hand and with £3.20p to my name a deal was done!
