  2. Another find amongst foreign coins at a boot fair 1990's only just emptying out other uninteresting coins this is a keep... 2 Reales 1721 Philip V Segovia Aqueduct Mint Assayer Francisco De Pedrera Y Negrete
  3. many thanks, I think I can now make out the London and the Civitas Cantor Canterbury I can see it clearly now this is pointed out, ....its been a great help and still finding more that I'm working though Civitas is a Latin word that means citizenship, state, or city-state. hence CIVITAS CANTOR = Canterbury CIVITAS LONDON . All the very best "H" 👍
  4. Many thanks for this, so one is Canterbury class 9, the other is Class 10... would this be Canterbury? or Calais , London?? with these I read somewhere , "No mintmarks were issued during the reign of Edward I, II. A system combination of Mint place names and Moneyer's was used" errrrrmmm? How?? many many thanks "H"
  5. Back to the top of this post 9th of Jan, I incorrectly listed these as 2 x Penny's Edward III 1327-1377....... Today I've found another of what I now think is a 1 Penny - Edward I, class 10? ( I have the dates as 1300-1310... other places I read it as in circulation 1301-1305 ?) long cross Pattee, or Potent ? please shout out if this different from the other one previously posted, from the collection point of view it would be nice to have one that's different. many thanks "H"
  6. Awesome & concise explanation as to why.... fascinating history as to how things occur.... Many thanks Sylvester
  7. ahhhhh! this one also need to be explained... I found this one whilst sorting through the 3 pence's ...is this a stamp issue from the mint? the obverse seems fine apart from the area by the GE on the George ... be really interested to know why. cheers "H"
  8. So the time has moved on with the Hoard of 3 pence's.... from out of the 53 I found 21 are in respectable condition, interesting exercise and learning curve has been the grading process, having 6 of the same dated coin in the palm, remove ones that are gashed etc, turn over an compare portrait decide which is least rubbed, reject others and may the best man win and remains in the collection, now in date order in a folder it also illustrated I don't think it was ever intended as a collection, theses have been passed to me and do as you see fit.... so... why not fill in the gaps and pass on something respectable for the next generation.. the road to be taking.
  9. ahhhhhhhhhhhh! so that answers another coin question, I wasn't keen on keeping certain coins (such as this one) but as its explainable and as a talking point will add it to the "on hold" pile for now.... I'm keeping the Counterstamp coin as this is fascinating me although others see it devalued....
  10. 1922 florin (already shown Feb 8th) ....... this seems to have issues, on looking closer it looks like brass is eating through, I understood these are .500 silver..... could it be this is fake? is there an age reaction that happens?? or am I misunderstanding???
  11. wow a coin from around 1066 time would be something to have even as a fragment, some of my collection is bits of coin.....many thanks for the share, cheers "H"
  12. William I, Penny Two Stars type 1074-1077 Obverse Crowned facing portrait between two stars, legend around. Script: Latin Lettering: + ǷILLEM REX AN Unabridged legend: Pillelm Rex Anglorum Translation: William King of the English Reverse Quadrilateral over cross with pellets, moneyer & mint name around. Script: Latin Lettering: + SIǷIORD ON ǷNCE Translation: Siward of Winchester Mints London, United Kingdom (650-1279) Winchester, England (871-1272) Comments Norman Kings (1066-1154), William I (the Conqueror)(1066-87), Silver penny, Two stars type. Numerous moneyer and mint name varieties exist. BMC#5 Duke William of Normandy claimed the throne of England on the death of his cousin Edward the Confessor. An important monetary reform occurred towards the close of the reign with the introduction of the geld de moneta assessed on boroughs. This may be seen as part of the raft of administrative reforms initiated by William I, which included the compilation of the Domesday Book in 1086. With great sadness its not owned by me.... does anyone on the forum have one in their collection? would be nice to see one... all the best "H"
  13. George III 1804 half guinea 7th portrait Standard circulation coin 1804-1813 Engraver: Lewis Pingo Numista Rarity index: 83 Auction sales price AU £ 580 UNC £ 750

  15. ahahahah..An there I was thinking I was overloading forum with all the newbie input... I have slowed down as I'm trying to rationalise what relevant and what isn't. oh and thank you everyone who have assisted during the first few weeks, its been great help. all the best "H"
  16. Ahhhhhhhh,! the forum has been a wealth of information, Ive been sorting through 30 odd years of picking up silver coins and only now beginning to get coins in a date order these start off in 1200's into the 1800's over 18 different coins, ok so value is of interest however finding out the scarcer they are has out weighed this for my interest...its also nudge me into learning more about The Royals...... Numista has been a useful place that I will look to... many thanks Peckris 2,
  17. Crikey.... I didnt realise, I thought Numista was based on a rarity index listed else where ? I do have to say there was such a rarity index else where then please do share...id hate to be responsible for listing duff information, and like others i will find a rarity index of use. Peckris... many thanks for your input...others..... please disregard my coin rarity previously stated...its very possible to be not valid ......sorry!
  18. I have a random and eclectic hoard of silver coins that I assembled over 30 odd years, pre internet purchases, I haven't followed a plan just buy silver coins as I find and if I have the "Brass" to buy them....I wouldn't say I was a good judge and was more luck and what's knocking around at the particular day..... A detectorist invited me to a walk around a field that I cancelled on a cold wet day in favour of a Antique Fair in a warm hall. I picked up a Victorian Crown for a £5..... the detectorist found some coppers and nickels... subsequently the metal detector was sold and silver coins bought...... I'd like to have ago at finding some coins this way at least once in my life.... but whats going around is there to be found.....me thinks!?!??! all the very best and do show and tell...it sounds all very interesting.
  19. Hello Sylvester, yes your right, it leaves very little to go on, I didnt buy it as to little information and to be honest I own enough that already rubbed away. 👍
  20. with the scudo I picked up I knew it was of interest to me, this coin by not seeing it in my hand I cant relate a strong enough interest to it... so the hunt continues, thank you for the input. 👍
  21. its no good I spent hours.....Really Hours looking.......and found this...... A Huò Quán (貨泉) coin issued by Wáng Mǎng (王莽), these coins were introduced alongside a chaotic system of round coins, cowrie shells, turtle shells, knife money , and spade money. As the people preferred this coin it would be continued to be made even after the fall of the Xin Dynasty with a mould from the year 50 (fifty) being found. Tang Dynasty (Tang Empire, was an imperial dynasty of China that ruled from 618 to 907) 唐朝 Apparently...... another thing thats ironic is China is a large area of fakes....not just coins !?!?!?!?
  22. I really cant remember when I found this, not ever found out about and its been left forever...... re discovered in a box of other interesting items still awaiting my attention. so...any ideas, I think its copper, Chinese cash coin and thats about all I can say about.... anyone know any more about these? all the best "H"
  23. Ahhh.... it seems that Obverse Engraver: Edgar Bertram MacKennal Reverse Engraver: George William de Saulles so only half wrong....or right depending what side of the coin you look at....
  24. more from my Silver coin (hoard) boot fair finds over the past 30 odd years. Charles II 1684 4 Pence Standard circulation coin Engraver: John Roettier Rarity index: 40
