    Estimates are simply the auction house's "finger in the air" which may or may not be based on past experience. Also bear in mind that some are "come and get me" estimates, set artificially low to encourage a bidding war.

    Yes, I've been looking for an affordable EF example forever. Silly question! I'd say the top grade for both is VERY RARE but give me the 1926...

    Good luck. Do be aware that you can get adverse effects from the Oxford vaccine but they wear off in about 24 hours. You do get what you pay for - free care is not very good.

    Weirdly, the obverse of the cartwheel almost looks convincing, unlike the reverse.

    I wonder if that's a weak strike rather than wear as such? The flat areas are all in a line from Britannia's helmet to her lap, with only the merest hint of rubbing elsewhere.

    A toned 1936! It does really look kosher though.

    Yes, it's not scientific I realise, but I've seen more lustred 35s than toned. Mind you, the toned examples were nowhere near as dark as that one.

    I heard the same joke about the Beckhams and a taxi driver when they've just returned from New York. David is going on about a great restaurant in NY where loads of celebs go. The driver asks its name. David's brow furrows. "Think of mainline London railway stations." "Euston?" "Nah, another.." "Paddington?" "Nah, that wasn't it." "Victoria?" "Yeah! That's it! Victoria, what was the name of that restaurant we liked in New York?"

    There's a mid-70s medallion commemorating the London Mint, so that might have been around its demise?

    That was the first book to specifically include the 1946 ONE' PENNY as a specific variety (i.e. more than a footnote) with a rarity and a value. He rated it scarcer than the 1926ME.

    I can imagine Llantrisant must have had a lot of spare capacity from 1972 on, given the much lower requirements for currency decimals. I am surprised that the 1970 sets weren't struck by London though.
