  2. To both Neil and Gollum. I have not seen a post from the latter in some time. Hope he's ok.
  3. yes...but it's the finest ever graded... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/G-Britain-Joint-Finest-Ever-Graded-Better-Date-1932-Penny-NGC-Cert-MS65RB-/221552436360?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item33958de488
  4. I wonder if this mania in the US for encapsulated "condition rarities" may make for some bargains for rare British coins that are not investment and/or registry grade.

  6. The only other coin I bid on was the 1869 Penny, which jumped into the stratosphere very quickly, the bidding was frantic on it! The 1869 penny in the earlier Spink USA sale appeared to be a far nicer coin and sold for $750 less than the one in the Stack's sale.
  7. Wasn't there a pre-1920 penny (or thereabouts) on an off-metal planchet that sold not too long ago for some incredible price simply due to the media hype?
  8. Arsenic in the coins we collect? http://books.google.com/books?id=o-5AAQAAMAAJ&pg=PA290&lpg=PA290&dq=copper+coins+arsenic&source=bl&ots=Q3qbFU4TmX&sig=DcVJX6j3jArFiNiCobCuXdWTBso&hl=en&sa=X&ei=AIjcU_DGIoGVyASu7oGoAQ&ved=0CDcQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=copper%20coins%20arsenic&f=false
  9. It occurred to me that I find myself looking on this forum for new posts far more times a day than is probably necessary and was curious if anyone else finds themselves doing the same.
  10. This one sold for $29,900 (which included buyer's premium) back in 2009 at a Heritage auction... http://coins.ha.com/itm/great-britain/world-coins/great-britain-george-v-bronze-pattern-penny-by-lavrillier-1933-/a/3004-21452.s
  11. For those who might be bemoaning the cost of rare British coins, just take a look at the price of comparable Australian coins.
  12. Their auctions of course provide another source of income.
  13. This one already has two watchers... http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Sale-British-Coin-George-V-Penny-1933-one-and-one-fourth-inch-31mm-/251563564147?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item3a925b5c73

  20. What does this have to do with a set of bagpipes?
  21. This was just reported as fake on the PCGS forum http://www.ebay.com/itm/141226341896?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  22. The example of this token you found on ebay is significantly overpriced for the condition it is in, which is likely why it has received no bids. It still is a token from one of the more interesting periods in US history, one in which Great Britain did play a role, and as such you might want to retain it as Tom suggests.
  23. Did a google search on Saxby's coins and came across this... http://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=72874.0;wap2
