  1. Indeed. Looks like that angle grinders been busy again ?
  2. ? Lol. Got my first one of those last night in my change. Bought a pint of milk and my morning paper with it today.
  3. I can see your point about that. Early shillings from the reign of Elizabeth definitely yes. Once they are clipped they would be extremely hard to distinguish from say a Sixpence but once they started clearly stamping coins (J1) with the denomination this would render such an act pointless so it doesn't explain the damage on mine in my opinion plus there is stab marks on the kings effigy , a strong case for defacement I'd say.
  4. I suppose in some cases your theory could well be the case but I'd still swing towards a political or faith statement in others. Depending on how you rotate a coin a x could well be + so it could symbolize the cross which could point towards Catholics. Also the x could symbolise a ritual killing if you like. I suppose it depends on individual coins and the wear on them plus the markings placed on them, if i saw a badly worn shilling that had a defined xii marked into it I'd roll with your theory.
  5. Think my one aboves a clear defacement. 4 lines plus peck marks. I've seen James I sixpences also scratched. If it was badly worn I'd agree but the denomination is clearly eligible also. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/James-I-1603-49-Hammered-Silver-Sixpence-1603-mm-Thistle-/391858831445
  6. Onboard. ?
  7. Another one bites the dust. Good work guys. ?
  8. Quite true. Good analysis. Considering how unpopular Charles was it is odd that many coins of his do not turn up defaced. I figured with James it was Catholics or people who were anti scottish that defaced them. I've seen a few crossed out of his. That ones got peck marks also like someone's took a stab at him. Your right also about it being early issues. The others I've seen are all 1603-1605. Thistle & Lis mm.
  9. Has anybody got any hammereds that have been deliberately damaged or defaced? I dug this one a few years ago. I've seen quite a few more since of James I that have been defaced in a similiar manner. Occasionally Commonwealth coins pop up in bad shape also with graffiti.
  10. Aye i hear ya. Its just me. I got so cheesed off digging rusty nails and horse shoes and cuts of rusty barb wire on the earlier machines i don't bother with it anymore.
  11. I have the Euroace which is under the 400. There is a feature on mine where you can stop the machine alerting you to any iron objects. You can see the machine flash it up on the display but it makes no alert tone. I just use that rather than dig iron . I do occasionally run the machine in all modes but it can go mental on some fields that are trashy with iron junk.
  12. Reported ! Seems to be a fairly new tactic of scamsters. Damage / falsely age replicas to make them less obvious to some.
  13. Thanks guys. He previously referred to them as old crap in boxes i think it was. A fairly accurate description. Last time they were in a bag then a box in his garden. I did notice he never gave nor recieved feedback for the last two that i assume went on to sell. Maybe the buyer pulled out. There was a few false bids put in that where withdrawn to warn others i assumed. Lets hope eBay pull this one!
  14. He's back again with more crap. I emailed him previously when he was selling the WRL Eddy 1st groat and John shortcross replicas. Please report them ! Not sure if they are all replicas but the groat is i can see the WRL stamp on it. Perhaps this is a new tactic to confuse buyers , lace it with a few low value genuine coins. I suspect they are all fake though and he's deliberately damaged them. The shortcross ones look to have the same moneyer as the WRL ones (Simond) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122636948835
  15. I discriminate the iron out on mine completely. Old horeshoes and nails. I did my share of digging those in the 70s / 80s with an old c-scope. Completely turned me off detecting altogether that did. Took me 25 years to give it another go.
  16. Lovingly buffed up with an angle grinder perhaps. Must of run out of brasso! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132287507999
  17. Frustrating ?. I reported that about 3 times. Be thankful we are wise enough to know better. Maybe the buyer will be though i doubt it. It was screaming replica all over even without the heart stamp.
  18. Same here. Reported it again. That description is still misleading. I urge others to do the same we may get it pulled again , hopefully ?
  19. ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/292204572795 Look at his other listings. Almost everything is a metal detecting find. The description on his " mediaeval gaming coin" is hilarious. His feedbacks diabolical also. Why would anyone buy anything from somebody like that. Smh!
  20. I am adding that guy to my favourite sellers list. That way when he lists his junk it will show in my feed and i can post it here ? There's sure to be more crap to follow from him.
  21. Try this website it may be of some use. http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/pages/Long-Cross-Pennies/Long%20Cross%20Pennies%20P1.htm
  22. Well spotted John. Just looked at his feedback. He's sold another 3 equally foul looking things.
  23. Thanks for that. Never thought of that. Makes sense. Thats a more likely scenario for an overdate. ?
  24. Ugly thing ain't it. Never seen one so bad. Reported it! ?
