  1. I have a spare copy of Peck's 'English Copper, Tin and Bronze Coins in the British Museum 1558 - 1958'. It's the 1970 reprint (the most recent 2nd edition and the newest one available). Most of you will already know that Peck's work is still the most up-to-date reference for varieties of base metal coins pre 1860. Copies of the book are sometimes hard to find. Condition is very good, dust jacket missing - £150 plus postage at cost. PM me or white something here. Thanks.
  2. I keep meaning to put details on of the 10p varieties on the Rotographic website. I've got a very long list of them.
  3. I don't have one I'm afraid. 1797 is the most common date (it's the only circulation Cartwheel date).
  4. I spoke to Danz on the phone and I hadn't heard about it (but will of course include it in the next Check your Change). I'm pleased that I've got one of the 'wrong' ones in the RM package. I had to purchase all 29 of the bloody things so that I can do the pictures. All these problems lately, one could come to the conclusion that the RM are finding it hard to get things right due to the sheer volume of different coins they are churning out of late. Perhaps they should concentrate on providing the public with coins to facilitate low value transactions, rather than simply medallions with face values, sold to line their pockets.
  5. Hello Debbie, You say you've bought here before? I'm sure you'd be familiar to me if I knew your surname (you don't have to reveal it here). Talking of shillings, I've just listed some Edwardian, including a couple of 05's: http://www.predecimal.com/british-predecimal-coins-shillings-c-51_32_37.html
  6. Yes, it's possible (if I do it). I changed my own ages ago to introduce a space between names! PM me or whatever, your requirements.
  7. I've just removed about 2/3 of the total forum membership. All were members that had never posted anything and had not visited for ages. It's possible that I may have removed some real people and if that it the case, sorry! Please email me and I'll re-instate. I'm now going to go through and manually delete some obvious deadwood.
  8. Yes I deleted the jabber/location ones you mentioned. And the new security question seems to be tripping them up at registration now. I assume that somewhere along the lines a human had told the spam bots what the previous answer was and that opened the doors. I'll tackle the many sleepers nex week.
  9. How are things looking now? I've deleted all new members than have joined in the last 5 days. I've also changed the security question, which should only be possible to answer if you're human! I don't know how they get around it. I know there are clearly other spammers here that are not active but have links in their profiles and simply do nothing (to enable search engines to find their silly websites). This always happens when I'm away! Next week I'll go through and remove the 'sleepers'. Thanks so much for your efforts TomGoodheart.
  10. Just thought I'd point people to this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150641815364 It's a wonderful Victorian impression of the Exchequer Great Seal, originally owned by Sir Frederick Parry and then William Gardner. Fabulous thing.
  11. That's nice isn't it. I don't see a problem with it being called EF. Get yourself a couple of Krause World coin books (20th and 19th century). They are usually pretty good to get a rough idea. I use my 2 a lot, and for pre 1800 I google!
  12. It actually had pretty low miles, mine. It was crime scene investigation and video surveillance car. I sold it off of ebay in the end for a pawtry £655 (and the running prob was only the Lambda sensor in the end). Quite a bit more than it cost, but after some repairs and registration fees it wasn't such a good idea. I was hoping for a grand.
  13. Excellent work 'Tom' - Goodheart by name, good heart by nature! I'll pop them on ebay right now. I actually have about 30 coins on ebay at the moment...have a look: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/chrisperkins/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=50 Oh, and a German police car that finishes in a couple of hours!
  14. The second one is silver with a milled edge, is 26.6mm diameter and weighs 11.67g.
  15. These 2 Arabic coins would involve more patience than I have to identify them. They certainly don't appear to be the usual Ottoman/Egyptian easy ones, so I'll offer a reward of £2 (£1 per coin) via paypal - I'll cover the fees - to the first person that can identify them for me; providing the country/ruler, mint and date details. The first one is this one, it's silver, 22.85mm in diameter and weighs 5.67g with a plain edge.
  16. The first thing I thought when I heard the winners were Scottish and then saw them, was how many battered mars bars £161m would buy! Argentumandcoins, I hate the way I collect and pay 7% (it's only 7% on coins here, zero on gold) VAT for every sale I make, but that I cannot claim 7% back when I buy coins, so in effect I don't pay VAT on the profit, I pay VAT on the whole amount of sale. 20% makes my 7% look like a drop on a hot stone, but do you know how I can claim back on purchases from private individuals? I think I heard there are some VAT rules which are harmonised EU wide. Incidentally the collecting accessories have 19% VAT, which is the standard German rate. Books also attrace 7% VAT, but I get around that by having all books printed outside Germany and stored/dispatched from the UK, where book VAT is 0.
  17. Nowhere near finished! I have completed a wall and a door/frame too high standard and other bits and pieces, but not even a complete room to report, yet!
  18. I've not been around much lately. Not deliberate, simply so much going on, mostly involving old cars that I've wasted money on! And an even older house that takes up a lot of time. Apart from the recent topic that was brought to my attention (and locked) what's news?
  19. I've just removed a whole load of posts relating to a certain seller of coins. I hate censoring things, but can we keep this under our hats for the moment? If it comes out as 100% true and proven, then I will flick the switch and make visible all the posts that I have just rendered invisible! Behave yourselves!
  20. I believe it was actually the Royal Mint that coined the term 'BU'....without really meaning to. In the 80s their annual sets of coins in folders were suddenly marketed as 'Brilliant Uncirculated' and that caught on to mean an UNC coin with full lutre.
  21. coinsforsale.co.uk My mate Richard in SE London. Mostly hammered English, Roman, Greek and some 18th century tokens. A good man. I share a table with him at the tri-annual London Coin fair.
  22. Did I reply to you? I don't remember gold sets recently. I must admit that I don't get too excited when I hear about modern gold (oh, and even though proofs are rarer...so what, melt the buggers down, they will always exist in larger numbers than there are serious collectors of them) as gold is bloody expensive, ties a lot of cash up and the profit margin is small in the short term. With gold you can't keep the money turning over (for a decent return) like with collectable coins where it is possible to regularly make 20 - 40% profit, rather than 5-10% with gold. Anyway, looks like you've sold them! Lucky the price of gold shot up. And welcome to the forum.
