  1. And also at the top of the forum pages between a couple of the book images. See them there too? It's annoying. Those of you that also have large websites with large bandwidth, who do you use for hosting? The company I use were taken over a year or 2 ago and service levels have fallen (and the costs also seem very high).
  2. Do others see the odd  symbol in the title before the pound sign, or is it just me? http://www.predecimal.com/edward-viii-father-just-p-9058.html It's to do with character sets on the server. My hosts say it's fixed, by I'm not so sure.
  3. My latest venture is to run around like a headless chicken frantically trying to get things a bit more organised and to find money that I don't have (mainly to do with the houses, due to the tenants in one of them wanting everything done and the other being tenantless but now on the market again. It took over a year to get it right)! Had bad flooding yesterday in Eastern Germany. We were actually cut off from the world until this morning. My car was at the garage next to a river and the phones were down so I couldn't get in touch with the mechanic that lives above. I also couldn't actually get to him either, despite it being less than 2 miles, not even in the old Range Rover. I phoned this morning and fortunately he'd had the foresight to move the car (my recently acquired 1972 Triumph 2000) to higher ground in the neighbours haulage yard. Everything is fine.
  4. The forum was down today. It was first brought to my attention on the predecimal.com facebook thingy. I had to run something or other and it seems to have fixed it. The something or other is still running in the background so it may be slow for a while!
  5. I need to host a picture in order to ebay the old RR. Have temporarily lost my FTP details so have to do it here!
  6. These don't need many words: http://www.predecimal.com/crown-1937-edward-viii-pair-models-p-20129.html
  7. Difficult to value. What else have you got? I once bought some things from the son of a man that was employed as a designer at the Royal Mint at about that time.
  8. It's a 1951 crown reverse which was made by using a Victorian crown reverse. This is probably a stage from that process (Victorian die adjusted to remove the original date so that '1951' could be added). I imagine that's what it is!
  9. Be hard to do. Coin dealers are mavericks by nature and often get a bit funny about sharing their wares with other dealers, even if the only sharing is a page of web results. Onlinecoins was good and I knew Andy too, but obviously it doesn't seem to have worked. The google search thing isn't a bad idea though. Surely lots of specific coins can be found that way, many of which are on dealers websites and on offer?
  10. In the first image it looks very much like an electrotype. Does it appear to be 2 halves stuck together? I have a couple of really nice looking 'Greek' coins that are fairly modern electrotypes.
  11. 300 Americans? I thought slavery was illegal everywhere by now
  12. Everyone got the same message! It was aimed at the hundreds of dormant users, not at you and the other regulars.

  13. What I find most interesting is that in the past things like that simply got spent and circulated. No one cared, coins were (and are) simply a convenient form of exchange. It didn't matter what it looked like - the purchasing power of a halfpenny was always of greater significance. Nowadays anything with a slight blob on it ends up on ebay within about 8 seconds, with a starting price of £50!
  14. Or here Dave!: Boxes of 10 Boxes of 100 The Lindner capsules are certainly like the top type with the lip on both edges. Lighthouse, Lindner and Safe (the main German manufacturers) all supply capsules with the lip. I don't know where the others come from.
  15. My friend Richard in Bexley recently sold a largeish collection of Numismatic books to a London based Numismatic book dealer. Quick and easy and a fair price, but I think even he needed a list! I can't remember who the book dealer was, but Richard can be asked via his website www.coinsforsale.co.uk
  16. Oh sorry, yes, it looks like you were removed in error. Having a gmail email account didn't help as 80% of the spammers also have gmail accounts. How many posts had you made before? I can certainly bump your post number up if it makes you feel better.
  17. You lot seem to be having such fun with Marina, so instead of just pulling the plug I've removed the link and email/skype and also banned 'her'. Clearly an automated bot thing. The pic loads wrong (at the most interesting part, some would say) deliberately to encourage the viewer to click on the now removed link which wasn't really 'Added later'.
  18. Hello Peter. 1) I'm still in the process of preparing the house. It has a new kitchen now, plus new windows and external doors. Some decorating also done, but still a lot to do plus other bits e.g. some plumbing in the bathroom and the lounge needs a new floor. 2) I still have my 400+ forgeries but the houses have priority at the moment. 3) Hopefully by the end of this year. The houses are draining resources, time, my last nerve. 4) I'll probably stretch back a little over time, but am keen to keep CCGB the number 1 paperback for GB coins that most people want to know about, and those are pretty much nearly always GIII and later. Adding pages increases printing costs and therefore the price of the book. We'll see.
  19. No! 'Most collectable' is a tough one because what people collect is subjective. Rarest is probably that Olympic swimmer 50p with the lines on the face that was withdrawn, or was just the Royal Mint being sloppy. As the public aren't aware of it though, it's not generally collected like the dateless 20p was.
  20. Yes, I meant Third Guinea, not Quarter. Mostly I seem to deal in pre 47 silver (due to the Guardian article last year) and the odd bit of scrap gold and bags and bags of coppers. It's all very well, but I'd love for a cheeky little collection to come my way, in case you know anyone! Thanks Dave. And Rob, I've emailed and you can reply to that.
  21. How is everyone? Can anyone provide any or even all of the following as 300dpi images for use in Collectors' Coins GB 2013: Guinea (1787 or later) Guinea, military type 1813 Half Guinea (1787 to 1800) Half Guinea (1804 to 1813) Quarter Guinea (Any, or all of the 3 types 1797 to 1813) Much obliged!
  22. Any dealer who pays more than the scrap value for them (which is 2 or 3p each) would be bonkers. Even selling them for £1 each at a rate of 20 a year, it's enough to last 2 generations! There's no point spending £100 for an £800 return if it's over 40 years (all being well healthwise). For all late 60s coins, I pay around scrap value then keep a handful for stock (20 or 30 perfect examples) and scrap the rest. In the late 60s even bank managers advised their customers to buy such bags of the last pre-decimal coins. Apart from helping the banks get shot of their old money, it served absolutely no purpose. There are still hundreds of bags out there I'm afraid, especially '67.
  23. Thankyou very kindly everyone. We had a barbeque and I had a surprise young lady visitor that normally shouldn't even be in the same Bundesland. It was (and still is) bloody hot....the weather I mean, obviously.
