  1. I don't mind both, but I prefer a good cuppa. Unfortunately with lack of the right tea bags/milk/water and tea making knowledge it's not easy in Germany unless you import it and make your own.
  2. Blimey, I'd better get mine when next in the UK before the Churchill Crown bubble bursts!
  3. Yes they're condor tokens, probably not worth a huge amount (and of course dependant on grade). I think someone around here has a book on them, but you'll probably have to research them online to get value ideas. I know someone who wants me to publish a book on that area, so come back in a year or so, or keep an eye out!
  4. but what?...on adobe you can save it to disk and then print it...and people could still use the print screen button as a way of printing/copying it... I think you have a lot to learn young Master Jmd, and a lot to grasp (as usual). I would have no trouble getting people to find the download as I already sell near enough 400 of the printed copy via online methods every year. To offer an alternative download version on my website, and to get the other current sellers of the title with a website to do the same would hardly be too much trouble. I will also be promoting the website in the books, so that's another load of curious visitors coming my way. A 20mb pdf would not fit on a floppy disk. And the fact it can be copied onto paper is no big deal....The book itself could be photocopied quite easily (but that involves a lot of effort and a loss in quality). The only real worry is CD duplication because it's quick, easy, involves no loss of quality, and is possible. You can of course save PDF's to disk, having a local copy that you've paid for is the whole point, and I've talked about printing in the paragraph above. What I need to do is offer an incentive to download the original, perhaps something like 'All registered downloaders get next years version at half price, and access to the databases'. Please don't reply with something not very well thought out Master Jmd, it gets on my nerves and I'm likely to delete it!!
  5. Done that.... I know how important the tab order is, and it was right, it was just being affected by the email entry form to the left. Refresh and it'll work.
  6. I'm a little afraid of offering it as a download, because it would be possible for anyone to burn CD's of it and give them out to friends! That would of course be illegal, but I know it goes on and I'd rater not loose revenue that way.
  7. Zipping a pdf will only reduce it by 10% at the most. If I do decide to provide it as a download, you'll have to leave it overnight to get the full thing! Or I could provide the abilitly to download each page....But early days, I need to get it finished first, and it's taken a week to partially complete 11 pages!
  8. As you know, I've been busy lately converting the current Collectors' Coin Great Britain book into a modern electronic format, so that it can be updated soon to create the 2005 edition, and of course updated annually with relative ease. I have completed the text to page 11 at this stage and have gone back on myself to put a few pictures in. So far page 4 is the most complete, so here it is for you to see: http://www.rotographic.co.uk/page4.pdf Ignore the price info, that's out of date. Check out the pictures! You will notice they are full colour and can be enlarged many times before quality is lost. The printed version will of course have greyscale images. (Perhaps I could make more money offering the pdf as a download than the actual printed book!) Based on the size of that single page, and bearing in mind I'll probably go over 80 pages, the finished book in pdf format will be probably 15-20mb in size! So what do you think about the font, look, feel etc. People like you people are my customers, so as always, your opinions count.
  9. They're either regional 'condor' tokens issued privately, or perhaps they are worn and you're reading the dates wrong?
  10. Absolutely no sixpences! (and Willaim, I believe the top coin is Gibraltarian)
  11. He can barely crawl financially!
  12. It's a bit shy of Fine! Especially the Obverse. I think £20 is already a little amitious.
  13. Thanks DAS! I'll email you.
  14. You're right, I will probably put the contents page inside (in contents order, not alphabetical :s) and there will then follow a short introdution. I think I'm too far in now (page 10) to start with crowns this time! I have included George III coins from 1797. The book will start in 1797 so as to cover all the Soho Boulton coins as well as the Great re-coinage. I consider 1797 to be the year when modern coinage as we know it really took off in the United Kingdom.
  15. Thanks Custard, I've spoken to Mr Gouby and I'll probably meet him at the London coin fair. So that's pennies sorted. Peter Morris thinks he has both for sale, but needs to check, and I'll call him tomorrow. Master Jmd: I'm not going to copy the books! I just need to know the reference numbers of the coins, so that I can provide them in the Collectors' coins titles.
  16. Chaps, I know there are 2, maybe 3 of you that have copies of peck and or freeman. It has been suggested that I should put peck no.s for all copper coins and freeman no.s for all bronze. In the current Collectors' Coins books that information is patchy and I don't have either a Peck or a Freeman! Would any of you be able to send me a Peck/Freeman via insured post to borrow for a couple of months? I know that's a tall order, and I'm sure the book gets lots of use, but there's no harm asking and I'd look after them. Also, if anyone knows where I can purchase them, that'd be great.
  17. That sounds good DAS, I could probably do with subscribing myself. Email me the details, I don't want free ads in here
  18. Very true, very true. But I'll give it decent pics and a spine first!
  19. That's not a bad idea! But i've started it now, and I'm currently on page 9! I'll look into it, but I think it may be akward, perhaps something for the 2006.
  20. I remember finding old 'Prefect' badges in a cupboard in my old school. They had not been used since the 60's I think. (The 1960's Oli )
  21. Yes it has been awfully quiet lately... You're right of course the cover and the font are very dated. Mr Marles, bless him, seems to really like the font for some reason. Just you wait until he sees what Adobe Pagemaker can do! (the software I shall be using to create the all new books). Yes, the rings around the pictures are silly aren't they, and it was indeed because the software it was written in could not handle more shades than 16, so the scanned photos where stuck where the author put the circles (the either too large or too small circles). I shall be getting the original photos and sorting that out. In fact today I was experimenting creating pdf files with sharp greyscale pictures in them, and I have it down to an art now. I will be creating a seperate section for non circulating coinage, this will include maundy, patterns, proofs and those modern crappy repro EDVIII coins (If I must include them at all). What I am doing right now in fact is slowly but surely converting the 2004 edition into a quality pdf format. When Mr Marles sends me his updated copy I will simply incorporate the prices he provides with the prices from personal experience and the database etc, to create the 2005 edition. I am also trying to explain things more clearly in the new version, and will probably have a breif 'how to use this book' paragraph. I have also changed the grades at the tops of the columns. The 2005 edition will have UNC/BU instead of UNC/AFDC. I just feel more comfortable with UNC being completely without wear, and BU being without wear with full lustre. What on earth is 'About Fleur de Coin' anyway?? Do you agree that readers will relate more to UNC/BU? I will also change the grade descriptions to that effect. So, it's all go.
  22. You're absolutely right Oli. Master Jmd will be involved with pennies because I know he's in to pennies right now. But he won't be the only one doing pennies.
  23. About 70 different coins and sets are in the British coin database at this stage!
