I had ten coins back from NGC this week. I think they got eight of them right, under-graded one by a couple of points and over-graded one by a couple of points. It isn't an exact science but, in my experience, they get the vast majority of the grading about right. We have a tendency to highlight where they screw up .... and it does happen. But we don't highlight when we agree with the grading.

I think he is just a second teir seller and when you click to buy he would get a small commission , the buyer would automatticaly deal with the """" seller in hong kong. He does nothing else apart from list on there behalf with a uk account. I would think there are loads of chinese / hong kong items sold this way. Maybe i am wrong but have heard of this before ?.

I personaly don't collect pennies but i have sold a couple in this condition, nothing rare but they still made £10 and £12 each which I considered quite respectable

Such "buried" pennies can have good detail, but often quite a lot of corrosion too. Your examples are VF for detail, but sadly have suffered quite a degree of damage. However, it is certainly worth checking them for rare varieties, of which there are more than a few in 1862 and 1863. If you can find a copy of Freeman's "The Bronze Coinage of Britain" you will find all the information you need, or even more from Michael Gouby's book.

"Proof like" is a rather lazy and unscientific term (compare with "BU Gem"!). It is of course entirely possible that proof dies are used for currency strikes as well, but obviously the blanks have not been specially prepared as for a proof, so at best they are only going to seem "semi proofs". Also, the learning curve involves distinguishing between "prooflike" where proof dies were used, and "prooflike" as a lazy description applied to an early strike from a currency die.

I think we can safely say the description is a lie. I don't think Mr Brand would appreciate being linked to that one.

Someone here mentioned that PCGS and NGC only use one grader for each submission, not according to this walkthrough, they use 3. Anyway, as much as i'm getting from the video is that it's based on opinion and no exact science behind a grade, so if anyone wants to send me $30 and their coin i'll happily give you a grade, i'll get the wife to give me a 2nd opinion before i send it back

We get found in grand dads belongings quite often or found in shed or garden but this is the new lie. Found under the floor boards. Wow do they all live in 14th century hamlets? Thats happened to me a few times. I find it annoying. I look at feedback now on sellers i am dubious about as usually you'll see other people complaining about items coming from china a month after ordering it and no mention of it being based in china in the listing or location.

Have reported this and sent the seller a 'conscience' message. Lets see what happens!

Entirely my sentiments as well - this is a blatant example of deception. I reported him as well. To make eBay take note of this, perhaps each of us should report each eBay listed item in his shop - or may be that would just be a waste of time if eBay are just going ignore the reports.

As close as I can find so far, legend on reverse of mine I believe will say HOLLHO then maybe a mint mark of some kind., then P or T obverse is slightly different as well, no small cross before HOLLANDIE on this coin I'm still searching, lol never looked at so many coins from Holland.

Agree with that Peck, added to which they only ever use around 1/3 of the possible grade values from 1-100. And describing a circulation coin with 'FDC' (if only in the translation table) may be strictly ok, but just doesn't sound right! Grades for choice coins are concertinered at the top end (using both CGS and Sheldon scales), resulting in 70 just not being quite good enough! To some it has to be a PCGS 70 Early Strike Ultra Cameo WINGS certified example (population joint finest known)
