British Countermarks on Copper and Bronze Coins,James Gavin Scott, Spink & Son Ltd., London 1975
I'm trying to trace a CP counterstrike that I have on the obverse of a 3/- Bank token and have been lucky in the past matching copper and bronze countermarks to silver coin.

And old dies were used until they broke wherever possible, so at the year end, the date would be recut. The same would happen with the initial mark changeover
When the sheet is produced you sometimes get material or air trapped inside the ingot as it cools. The metal crystallises at the inner surface of the inclusion. As it is rolled progressively thinner these inclusions can become exposed. What you have there is a couple of flaws arising from the trapped air.
Attached is an example where you can see the inclusion and crystallised metal to good effect.
