  2. The one consideration you have missed is the possibility that the overdate (or letter) was not punched deep enough into the die to pass the lowest point of the previous digit. Using the same reasoning, consider the 1817 GEOE/R shilling. I refuse to believe the engraver thought 'Here'a correct legend, I'll just create an error by 'correcting' the R with an E so that some nerds 200 years from now find something to get excited about'. Clearly the E would have been put in first, but the correction wasn't sunk deep enough. Easy to do if you are looking at the lowest point in the field as a reference point rather than the bottom of a very small deep pit.

  4. I suppose it depends what you've got to work with. EJ ❀ FD on a love token is not going to go anywhere. It just depends how much information you have to start with. If you've got full names and a date you might be able to find something out but you are probably going to need a paid subscription to ancestry or some other Genealogy website and even then it might lead knowhere as there likely will of been more than one person with that name around the same period. I got lucky with my cartwheel penny as it had the guys full name , rank and unit engraved into it.

  6. Can I please email someone from the forum, to take a look and confirm what I'm seeing is actually correct. Can said person respect my privacy and not share images of my coin?
  7. Im scared to face the music, I cant find any differences between my coin and the example which sold at the baldwin auction for 37k, mine also shows the weak /missing liner circle in the same place as the coin sold in the Baldwin auction. I dont want to post pictures to the forum for privacy reasons.
  8. In some forums - e.g. Items for Sale - I was paging through endless supposedly unread topics (the "Next unread topic" button was at the bottom of every topic which should only be there for actual unread topics). Eventually - after wondering why so many people were selling stuff - I noticed the dates of each topic were a few years old! Has there been a software change very recently?
  9. I saw most of his Davos speech - honestly, it was just a raving ramble complaining about everyone except his own team, yet claiming ridiculous false achievements in his first year.
  10. Aha.. do tell more..I have a few and have been wondering where to go to discover more details out... any Ideas where to go? πŸ‘
  11. I couldn't agree more, I didn't have a agenda when buying coins and not knowing anything I bought any items I found old and interesting .....and cheap 🀷I like Paddy's with chunk missing...It has character, I have a few that have chunks missing and others with holes that have been worn as a pendants..... one is in a really good condition easy to make out the king and letters... I guess this came to be as it was worn rather than in circulation. πŸ‘
  12. Unless his full name was Harold Trumpsson?
  13. That's been to hell & back πŸ˜† I think it's probably a cast piece rather than a forged die. The legends are neat.
  14. 5 Cents Buffalo & 1884, 1923 Dollars πŸ‘
  15. The plot thickens. Another overdate spotted in the wild. Ebay. 1820 over 1819. Any sign of Seuk ? Love to know his take on these overdate forgeries it's strange yet fascinating.

  17. AHA! only a couple of thousand coins to look through ? me to...Ive spent a year of sorting through 30+ years of boot fair and flea market finds, amongst my hoard there's been some surprising finds that I completely forgot about. there's a few silver Dollars amongst others I'm going to have to dig out a Buffalo coin...It has a mint flaw...I think, I have kept the silver ones that aren't to worn as I'm not in no rush to move these on until retirement πŸ‘
  18. "The Harold II silver penny hoard only includes pennies minted by the king" You would have thought a king would have better things to do
  19. Sounds good, but we still need photos! Jerry
  20. Thanks, I have been studying all of those images. I have used the main identifier for the obverse shown on Richards site being the R & I that don’t touch. And for the reverse the thinner waist/ trident shaft. ( If you draw a line from the nose of Brittania down to by her waist you can clearly see a wider gap on the no H compared to the heaton coins) then I have used the other identifiers for the P+r to confirm the main two.
  21. You seem to know what you have πŸ‘ These are the other pictured known examples off Richards site to compare. https://rarestpennies.wordpress.com/1882-f112/
  22. I found this interesting and some lovely hammered coins pictured: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm2yerrqel7o
  23. Hi, thanks ! yes, Including the tooth in line with the (1)882 14 teeth yes. The 1883 obverse from what I have seen shows the hair ribbon terminating in a point to the knot unlike the 1882 no H. Also the 1883 doesnt have the tuft of hair which is shown on all the examples, worn coins show this. I have read about worn or altered F111 (P+p), F114 (R+p),F115 (R+r) none of those pairings have the identifiers F112 (Gouby (P+r); Freeman 11+N)
  24. Yes, there is no substitute for pictures of the actual coin.
  25. One thing that stands out is the date width as should be 14 Teeth ( NOT 13 ) and also the possibility of the last digit being altered from a 3. Maybe post clear pictures as there is a lot more knowledgeable collectors on here than me and will be able to give there opinion.
  26. Hi all, I have two sets of gold sovereigns that I’m looking to sell and I’m after some expert opinions: the two sets: 1989 Proof Gold Sovereign 4 Coin Set 500th Anniversary Boxed & 1987 Proof Gold Sovereign 3 Coin Set Boxed - how much I should be looking for each set? - best place to sell? - should I keep hold of them with the price of gold at the bottom? TIA
