Stuff to Make Us Laugh

I'm happy to go with that. I do realise that politically I'm in the minority here, but most of you guys don't have a problem with it. - Today

The other thing you have to consider is that what's left of the H has been artificially rubbed away on a worn penny in modern times, then the whole coin distressed in order to hide what was done.

1882 NO H Penny

With closer 8's - they appear slightly wider around the H. -

Come on guys, I go to this thread for a chuckle, not to read personal remarks. -

Oh dear, you blocked me straight after your foul mouthed rant. So you know exactly what I'm talking about. - Yesterday

1882 NO H Penny

I said to Pete that I thought there should be evidence of the H as the bottoms of the 8's are visible, and using rarestpennies images I mocked up where the H should be - there are no remnants which would normally be visible, so its either altered very carefully or it wasn't an H to start with. The gap between 8's does look too narrow too. Edit: mock-up isnt exactly to scale but is a good representation. -
His constituency is Newark apparently. I wonder if Kemi Badenoch has reflected on possible anagrams that could be made...?

The problem with those H buns is that being so close to the edge, the H is much more prone to wear than the date digits. I've lost count of "wrong" 1882 pennies offered for sale as "no H " pennies!

If oldcopper can provide a link to the conversation he mentioned above, then I'm quite prepared to read it and to apologise if it's appropriate, i.e. if what he says is true. However, I've received nothing but vitriol from him in the past, but I don't expect him to admit that. I've only ever blocked one member of these forums. He knows who he is. -
I'll try that for the forums where it happens. Most work normally though.

Yes it's not great. It's pulled most of the information off the convict records site i linked above. It might be able to pull up some stuff off one of the Genealogy website's about him though 🤞

I never trust any AI answer to be even 1% accurate.

Stunning stuff, absolutely love it 👏👏👏

And there was me having a very similar chat with Peter yesterday. The wrong obverse according to the "law" but absolutely no sign of an H ever existing. -
You should be able to find out more about him using Gemini Ai. I pulled this up quickly. You could probably ask further questions and get some more details from it. https://gemini.google.com/share/1a43cd2e2c35

I am not a member. I found the site by chance using "George Pettet Transported to the Colonies" as a google search. It was the top link.
-
Wow! Well found! If you are a member on that site, feel free to add a copy of my picture if you think it would be appreciated.

https://convictrecords.com.au/convicts/pettet/george/97932 Could be him. According to the details added later on by a lady called Diane Jones he was executed for a murder carried out in Oatlands , Australia a few years after he arrived in Australia.
-
That is a tough one. My first impression was George Pettet. But it's a C punch instead of a G. Perhaps he didn't have a G punch. But if that was the case there could be other letters substituted by other punchs so it would make it extremely difficult to research i guess.

Apoligies for the misunderstanding. I am not too clued up on those type of marks. They are chop marks i think. There may be a book somewhere with them in. I know there is books on the counterstamped trade tokens of the 18th century & 19th century covering the likes of the Bradford & Keighley workhouse tokens to name a few. Galata do a good one.

Thanks Chris. It goes without saying I greatly appreciate the Forum, there's a lot of expertise on it. -

I wasn't aware of any previous disagreements and I certainly may have neglected my role as forum admin in the past, I accept that. Having a little fun with current affairs and public figures, including politicians, is fine and healthy banter as far as I'm concerned (e.g. blakeyboy's meme above). Let's keep politics off of here though, both of you. It always becomes a headache (from my point of view)! I'm sure you two gents can agree to disagree, you've both been here for years so you must have managed to somehow. Thank-you both for your input. -

Chris - I understand and won't say any more, but I am referring to the last time that him and myself had a "discussion" - I was explaining the fraudulent interpretation of data by BLM, now Peckris told me he had these other statistics for crime and demographic correlations in the US (this was back in 2020), I had the FBI statistics which are the only ones of course, so unsurprisingly he never produced his mysterious statistics (he'd made it up of course, so he was being dishonest). On being further asked about it, he exited the conversation with various obscenities aimed at myself, a flurry of eff's (spelt fully!) and other abuse. If you don't mind me saying, you were nowhere to be seen. And I have to tell you. that was far, far worse than what I have written above. I'm sure he's very knowledgeable about coins, so perhaps he should stick to that. But I am very happy to have a conversation with anyone about politics on here.
