If you look at his initial post Jerry (and yes i know its me You're talking about) he asked for a cost based in his assesment if grade, of which i merely said that the grade was'nt as high as he suggested, so am i wrong to suggest this fact? I never said anything else until a strop came in after Nordles comment and which he jumped onto the bandwagon and played the injured Party card. I don't see why i'm the bad boy here for suggesting a correct grade assesment, thus in turn would give him a Rough idea of price.

He said he was a novice yet graded accurately, so we're all in agreement that he did so and i was in the wrong to point this out?

Sorry but i won't step back for Helping him out by giving him a correct grade. Post 1 and post 2, then comes post 3 from Nordle then he feels offended, please, gimme a break

Yes, but we merely pointed out he was wrong, and he went ballistic about it, with coins it's a variety or not a variety or a grade or not a grade nothing else matters , some on here have spent years grading coins and are about fit enough to work for a slabbing company (not that I want anyone to start on that slippery slope).

Buying a book and studying for half an hour will not be enough to get you anywhere near the grading standards of the experience collectors on here.

He should be heeding what we say and learning from us and not just throwing his toys out of the pram , because he does not like what we have to say

If helping him get an accurate value by helping him grade, or anyone else die that matter, then we'd best all be quiet about grades and coins. It just went OTT, which he himself took there. As i said, you need a little thicker skin especially if someone is challenging a grade on here, there's more Pages about grading on here than any other subject.

In defence of Azda, I've got to say that I didn't read anything objectionable into his response concerning the grade. And after all, it is the grade as much as anything that will determine value, so it is entirely relevant to the question raised, whereas Fluke did seem to me to go off on one very quickly in his post #6. After that things did go downhill fast, but I don't see Azda as the villain here.

Dave, up until post 11 this was a bit of disagreement coupled with a bit of misunderstanding, and perhaps a bit of hope over reality on Flukes part, though from Colins post the grading isnt necessatily that far out, even if the terminology of presentation needed ironing out. But was your dummy/ pram statement really necessary, bearing in mind he knows nothing of you? He doesnt know about the broad Scottish accent and cheeky smile? And we dont know about his sensitivities, and perhaps as a group we should be more tolerant to newcomers. Either way we have lost potential contributer before we even got to know him.

On the other hand it is clear that others think the approach was right; It is right that we all make our views felt, and I hope others do.

PS Dave, dont be surprised at my contrary view, I too am a Scot by birth (Lerwick) and therefore naturally argumentative, though 45 years in the Land of Song has had a moderating effect.

I bear no i'll Jerry, its when i get called condecending for no reason that i start taking offence to and start to bite back. I did'nt give the man any reason to be negative towards me other than comment on his grade. We live and learn, but i did say that he should stick around and try and learn, but he just got a little fiesty towards me.

I too had a similar start to My time on this forum, hence the reason i said you need thicker skin, until you get to know the forum peoples post can be preceived negatively

This is one of the major problems with any kind of social media, Facebook and the like, that a missed comma from a face we don't know can equal an offence equivalent to killing the neighbour's dog (not sure why a dog, maybe the neighbour, then?)!

The point being, you do have to read between the lines, sometimes, even when online-communicating with someone you're relatively familiar with (in a cyber context)!

I didn't read any malice in Dave's, or anyone else's comments for that matter, because, for me, it was business as usual in the way I interpreted all the different posts, by all of the different personalities on here.

Perhaps some of the latter comments may not of been my own choice of words, and can see how easily they may have offended Fluke (though I think he flared, even before those comments) or others! But, speaking for myself, I would still prefer a diverse forum, provided it stays within reasonable social boundaries, that is true to the general mix of coinies we might meet in the real world.

I'd say the general thread here had a good balance of individuals, with everyone offering an olive branch! Even the Scot (albeit his olive branch a thorny thistle), had a go, in his own special way!

It'd be great to have you back, Fluke, but there are a lot of people on here...all of them will give you good advice, but maybe not everyone can wink at you, and chink your glass, to reassure you they are on your side! At least not all of the time!

So, anyway, Colin has been on and shot us down with our cleaning theories which, just goes to show, you need to stick around, otherwise you'll never get to know who ways right about that! and this is the reality of a coin forum, Fluke!

Each of us has our own approach. However one thing is certain "no one takes the piss on this forum".

I have followed Daves' (Azda and DG's) comments on numerous threads and not only do I like them but also I do learn from them.

The problem like Jerry points out is most newbies have high hopes. They look at a coin and immediately think out of the varieties the one in their hands is of the scarcest type. A classic example is the person who came asking about the 1922 penny the other day. Personally I don't post if the coin involved is not a penny (purely because I don't collect anything else) and I also don't take a measured approach when I pull people down from stratosphere. Not because I want to humiliate anyone but because I believe people need a reality check. At the same time I also share your excitement when someone has hit the jackpot. I am sure most people on this forum are the same. As long as the intentions are good there's no harm done .................
