Garoyn Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Hello all. I'm rather new around here. US-based with interest in coppers. I've come into a few dozen decimal and pre-decimal coppers and I'm scoping out whether I want to continue with them and come into a few dozen more {grin}. Don't mind me; I'm just looking around. Garoyn Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 OK, I've picked up a few decimal and pre-decimal pennies. I created a custom Dansco album (blank) for the decimal pennies. How are folks storing/displaying/keeping pre-decimal pennies? I could put together a blank Dansco album (using U.S. half dollar size) for these too. I'm currently just looking at circulated 20th century coins, so nothing (yet) needing a high-tech single-coin solution. I'll start with Ms. Vicky shortly {grin}Currently, I am keeping the pre-decimals and extra decimals in coin tubes--some in flips.Oh, and I'm looking at the other coppers, too. Suggestions for storing/displaying? I prefer not using Ziploc bags, shoeboxes, coffee cans, etc. I am an album person (but not the folders having exposed coins). I tend to be a hole-filler, and while the inventory program I use can tell me that I don't have a particular specimen, the empty spot in the album tells me the same thing, but louder. Quote
TomGoodheart Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Hmm .. Dansco type albums aren't common here I'm afraid. Whitman used to make them but I believe they are out off business and I don't know if similar products are available any more. Personally I keep better grade coins that aren't part of my main collection (which are in a coin cabinet) in acid-free envelopes in a drawer. Of course, you can't admire them like that! I know some people keep coins in 2x2 flips which then go in albums. You could leave gaps (as I do in my cabinet trays) for dates/ varieties you don't yet have?. But the 50c Dansco sounds like a better solution if pennies fit and that's your sort of thing! . Quote

I used the 34mm cut-outs for the Copper Pennies, and the 31mm cut-out sheets for 1860 and up (Bronze), pennies. They fit pretty good. Then I took a P-Touch electric label-er and used clear tape with black letters to make all the coin type labels. It makes a pretty good finished product. The coin that is hard to match up is the Farthing. The cut-outs are either too small, or too big. I chose the slightly larger cut-out sheet (21mm). Quote
Garoyn Posted July 2, 2015 Author Posted July 2, 2015 Thanks, this helps! I'm still in the early stages of the learning process for the UK/GB issues, coming from a US paradigm. Hmmmm, farthings, eh? hmmm . . . 1 Quote
