Hello Gents.

Recently acquired this George VI Penny which as you can see appears to be undated.

Cant say I have seen anything like this before and it does strike me as a little unusual particularly for this type of penny.

Could anyone help shed some light as to is rarity and subsequent value?

Interesting!!!

It would need to be put under a microscope to ensure the date has not been artificially removed.

However I think it looks kosher from here and if it really is then I personally think we are looking upwards of £500.

Very interesting, however from my computer it looks like someone has ground the numerals off. I can see striations under the exergue line.

I'm also interested as to what the lines are that seem to be in relief on the obv. and the rev. if you know what they are?

I've never seen a genuine example though so I think your guesstimate is about right Jacinbox, if not more to be honest. Here's my example, from another collector on here, however the discoloration is a sign of tampering we think...

I also see striations under the exergue with discoloration in a concerning distribution. I am leaning toward PMD (post mint damage). Be nice to have an original undated coin.

As an afterthought, the local University may have an SEM - scanning electron microscope that would really give great detail.

Hi. Thanks for the replies guys. Here is an extreme close up of the date area.

Hope this helps confirm wether it really is the genuine article or not

Thank you

Not sure were you live but might be worth taking to a coin fair and letting a few of the dealers have a look in hand.

Very hard to tell from the pictures and i feel it must of been removed ,but would be made up for you if not .

Will take it to a local dealer and get his oponion.

Fingers crossed. It would be quite a find if it proves to be real!

To get a really close image, place a magnifying glass or loupe directly over a smartphone camera shutter. Move close enough to the coin until it's focussed. You'll be surprised at the detail of the image possible.

IMO it looks tampered with. For example the finger marks on Rev suggests artificial colouring of the coin..

Good luck and may the force be with you..

I'm on my cell phone, so the images are small... However I do see indications of tooling or other work being done to the coin.

With that caveat being stated, IMHO the date was removed post minting.
