Chalkwizard Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I have a coin the exact size and shape of a 10p piece on the front it is exactly like a 10p, all markings and colour are the same. However when I turn.it over it is stamped with the reverse side of a 2p piece. I've tried it against a 2p and it is both smaller and slimmer. It has the same.dimensions a a modern 10p but with a smooth outside edge it is dated 1992, any ideas what it is? Quote
Chris Perkins Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 We spoke on the phone today didn't we?As you know, it's an error coin and it sounds like the 2p dies have been used to strike a 2p but with the wrong blank in place, either the blank of a 10p or of another coin intended for something else.I thought you already had someone that was willing to pay big money for it? As far as I'm aware modern off-metal strike like that don't sell for very much money at all, usually. Unless any other members know of any expensive ones in the past? I've had cu-ni pennies before and generally got just a few quid for them. Quote
Chalkwizard Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 I haven't spoken to anybody, bit of a coincidence there (spooky) I'll try and post a pic Quote
Chris Perkins Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Silver coloured 2p's are all coming out of the woodwork today! Sorry for mixing you up. Quote
Nordle11 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Wrong flan errors won't get more than a couple of quid, ignore the BINs on eBay no one ever bites at those prices... Quote
VickySilver Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I have gotten very nice pieces in penny denomination from the 1960s for 50-100 quid...I am a buyer if not too steep as well. Quote
Chalkwizard Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 I'm not bothered about selling it, I've had it since 1992 it's just something overhead for a longtime but knew nothing about. Found it today whilst tidying up and thought I'd find out what it was Quote

Post decimal as in after decimalisation?Post 15th February 1971...Or late 1969 if you're talking 50p's...Or 1968 if you're talking 10p's and 5p's...Or, in this digital day and age, post post Quote
Nordle11 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Any idea what it is that I'm supposed know that no-one else does? Quote
Colin G. Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I think the reference was to the fact that we have pre-decimal, and are currently in decimal, so post decimal does not yet theoretically exist...or as it will be better known the "euro" phase!! Quote

Peckris Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Technically the question has already been answered :- we may not be 'post decimal' but we ARE 'post decimalisation'. Quote
Nordle11 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Haha you picky bunch of b******s! You all knew what I meant ..and thanks Colin! Quote
