Rob Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Double strike. There are some bargains today, with a couple rather high. A real curate's egg of a sale. Quote
Accumulator Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Just left... Did pick up a couple of pennies. Glad I went to view the coins, though, as often the photos just aren't good enough to see minor issues. Progress was very slow due to Internet lag. Quote
Nick Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 It did seem that many lots were going for less than the estimates, although the choice items were still fetching good prices. Quote
Colin G. Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I got a couple as well .... ...but did not intend to spend today oh well Quote
jaggy Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I put in internet bids on 4 lots and was successful on two of them. Quote
Paulus Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 (edited) These Viccy sovereign prices are a bit mad! Some (the EF and better ones) going for 6 times estimate or more! Edited June 12, 2013 by Paulus Quote
Rob Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 These Viccy sovereign prices are a bit mad! Some (the EF and better ones) going for 6 times estimate or more!Yes, but the estimates are less than half Spink book, so most are going for UNC plus a bit, or say 2-3x book. Quote

jaggy Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 For my two successful bids I paid £20 and £30 below the high end of the estimate range and right on the maximum I was willing to pay. Quote

Colin G. Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I paid high for one which I really wanted, got one for mid estimate and couldn't refuse the other at £40 below lowest estimate...hopefully it was worth a gamble!! Quote
Paulus Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I won one, at £10 less than low estimate and considerably less than I was prepared to pay, so pretty happy Quote

Rob Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013   Hopefully, we were not bidding against each other Everyone should know how much they bid, so everyone should know if they won or not unless it is at their maximum Quote
Coinery Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 These Viccy sovereign prices are a bit mad! Some (the EF and better ones) going for 6 times estimate or more! The best place to snaffle a sovereign is in the peripheral auction houses that sell a few antiques and a bit of jewellery, etc. UNC sovs go for the same price as fine most of the time, bought only at bullion value (which is in favour of the collector right now) by non coinies!
