I know we have had discussions about silver toning on buried coins, so here are some that are as found (other than a light swill). Sorry about the small pics, the camera battery is dead so they are phone pics Three voided long cross pennies, one full two cut halves1915 Shilling - very bright and must have been in great condition when lost - much brighter than the pics showQueen Anne 6d smooth as a babies bum!!Henry VI? halfpenny - still checking!!In the artefacts are a Georgian fob seal, a Victorian silver buckle ring and a ring brooch Quote

Where were they found? Do you have to ask permission to use a detector or join a club? And what do you do with your finds, do you have to register them somewhere? Having said all this I am sure I wouldn't have the patience myself to have a go! Quote

These were from a weekend in Essex, a day was on a charity rally, and the other two days were on a rally organised by a friend. I do have local land as well, and it is just a case of getting the landowners permission beforehand. Only finds that come under the treasure act are recordable, however I do record anything of interest with UKDFD which is a hobby sponsored datatbase which records/coins and artefacts. This was a very good weekend of finds, it is just great fun to be out in the fresh air, and it is a great buzz when you find something. Quote

My wife bought me a second-hand one 3 or 4 years ago now, but I've never felt it was working correctly or, more to the point, it is such a complicated piece of kit that I could never be 100% sure whether it was me or not! I've only taken it out twice, and only ever dug up rusty nails, which were meant to be discriminated against! Any ideas? Quote

There will also be multiple modes. There is a good forum detectorist.co.uk and I am sure an xterra user on there will be able to assist with settings etc. They are all so different so it would be important to talk to someone with the same machine. Where are you located, there may be a dealer nearby who could also help. Quote

We spent a lot of last winter in Soirensestur, shooting back and forth to Saul, where our boat's being built! We probably passed you a dozen times!A good memory for me is walking through Cirencester Park into town, along that straight thoroughfare and through the gates into the old part of town, with 6 inches of snow on the ground! If you walked through Earl Bathurst's estate to the town, that wasn't Cirencester Park, and certainly not Ciren or Coiren Park - no, that was Ciceter Park! Quote
