My mum was born close enough to the Bow Bells to have been a cockney, but she's poshed up in Dorset now. Dad was born in Lewisham but all his family were from the East End, in fact the Perkins line from at least 1750 onwards were all born in London, starting in the City and each generation getting a little further out. I was born in Sidcup, just on the fringe of the outer most SE London Borough (Bexley).

I'm Suffolk and good :D

I did have the misfortune of working in Limehouse and then Canning Town between 1992-2000.

I have a London accent with a Suffolk burr after a few pints...when sober dead posh mind :)

In the last 12 years I've probably been down the smoke a dozen times on business and avoided it for the last 3 years.

An ex colleague who can pee from his bedroom window and hit the Olympic stadium should be getting me a few tickets for the games. :)

I didn't realise peeing was an Olympic sport now, but little surprises me these days.

And talking of surprises, I had thought you were all Home Counties chaps.

Now I know why I never bumped into any of you when I was up at my club.

:P

Back on topic----Why not ring the Royal Mint?? They MIGHT know. But some of the rubbish they produce these days makes me doubt it!!

2nd goal was an attempted cross me thinks which went all wrong and ended up as goal of the season. Howay the Toon next weekend :D

OK, I got bored. On my 2008 10 pence piece there are 90 ridges (the bits that stick out).

However, putting it against a 1992 10p piece shows that the ridges do not all line up and so I conclude they are different.

And setting logic aside, I suspect that it depends on what year or which machine is used and that there is no consistent number of millings. I do not have the patience to compare and count any more of the things however, so I'm afraid Curiousity you'll have to make do with that!

Ha, there you go. Just as I was thinking the poor kid was gonna go back to his teacher and say;?I tried to get the information off a coin forum but all they could talk about was cockney rhyming slang?

I like the Toon because of the Robson connection. Also back in the 80's we spent a good pre match drink, lunch, pool, darts session with a bunch of Geordie lads. :) Can't see that ever happening with Cockneys,Scousers or Mancs :( .

Just remember, mine was the first identified 'small ridge number' 10p, so I shall be asking an appropriately inflated price for it.

Oh, never mind. The wife just spent it.

Bollocks! Cisse was the furthest player up the pitch and he knew that. First time effort that's either sensational (which it was) or hits 5 seats along in row Z. If it had of been Ronaldo or Messi it would have been hailed as goal of the century.

How on earth did we get from ridges on a ten pence coin to Cisse's goal (stunning goal by the way!!) and peeing as an olympic sport  this has strayed nearly as much off topic as Debbie's post about the markings on her George V penny on the language forum

BTW I did try to count the ridges on a ten pence but the phone rang at 60 so I kind of gave up

I thought Cisse was the long dead Kaiserin of Austria.
