A model of a Cromwell halfcrown surely ? How else could it be so much smaller than a bronze penny?

That'll be because the bronze penny (as featured on the front cover of the Spink 2012 catalogue) is greater than life size.

Ah! As a non-owner of the latest Spink it would explain why I didn't spot it as a picture. Also, it's unusual for Spink to feature more than one coin on the cover.

Paulus at risk of causing offence to you and many others can I just point out (again) that there is life outside ebay. Try a genuine dealer or an auction house and at least you will have some form of assurance that all is well (and no I don't have a Cromwell halfcrown for sale). I have no reason to doubt that the coin is genuine or that the sale is also genuine but I would just like to draw your attention to the fact that it is on a private listing, which leaves you wide open to shill bidding. Good luck.

Absolutely no offence taken and I won't be bidding, it is already too rich for me! As I understand it, shill bidding will only catch you out if you end up paying more than you originally intended, or more than it is really worth, have I got that right? Far from an expert on these matters and value your input as always!

As I understand it, shill bidding will only catch you out if you end up paying more than you originally intended, or more than it is really worth, have I got that right? Far from an expert on these matters and value your input as always!

Shill bidding (and again I stress that I am not implying that this coin is being shilled up) will catch you out every time you win an item, purely because your "winning bid" is being pushed on by a dishonest seller. It doesn't matter whether you are well below, below or on your maximum when you "win", you have been dishonestly pushed to that point. A genuine underbidder means that at least one other real person thought it was worth a similar price to you. The fact that you are still happy to win at your top bid is irrelevant is it not? If you like spending as much as you can to acquire coins please feel free to phone me and I will increase some of my prices to a level you are still happy at ;)

It certainly looks 100% genuine. Below £1500 you would be lucky to get it .

I alway search by Spink Catalogue number ( in this case "3227a" ) on the

DNW and Spinks Web sites and apart from the flaw that knocks it a bit,

but who knows how much ?, those in similar grade have fetched around £1300

to £1800 plus 24% premium . I think its VF ? or close, but once they are

that bit better £2000 seems to be the ball park figure , and if they get

to EF plus they seem to get to around £3000.

Its a shame that the seller has such a stupid seller name!

It is one you won't forget.

He has sold some lovely stuff over the years .

You probably know, but in case anyone doesn't it's just a standard expression for something extremely rare. Bit like 'hen's teeth'.
