Some very fine quality stock there. I've bid on a couple.

Anybody else made any bids yet ?

Although looking back,it does say bidding starts on the 15th September, so i assume that our bids are of no use?

Is there any chance we can be organised and mature enough to not bid against each other do you think ?

Or is that a pipe dream ?

Two caught my eye......

Also, what's going to be in part 2 ?

I was expecting to see the sale divided by dates, not the full spectrum from Victoria through to George. There is obviously a 'strategy' in play, what is it ?

I kinda want to know, in case I should be keeping my powder dry.

Ah, didn't notice that. So presumably we must re-bid on or after 15 September one would assume.

Ok, so which 2?

Put it this way, they occur between lots 67 and 77..... ;)

Well we're ok there then, the 2 i'm looking at occur much later, so 1 down :-)

Well, there were soom missing bits in the date and variety runs and think they will be in the Part 2 portion of the sale.I will not be competing as it just happens that upgrades I am looking for are not there, so strike off one other competitor.

Neil Paisley emailed me this afternoon regarding the split, it would seem that if it isn't in

Part 1 it is probably in Part 2, if it is in the collection to begin with.

Hi John,

Sorry for the delay in replying - we have been finishing off part 1 and you

will probably notice that it is now on line.

The split is pretty even between the 2 parts for example - in Part 1 there

is an 1864 Serif 4 and Part 2 is an 1864 Crosslet 4 also there is a good

1869 penny in Part 2 where you will notice that date is missing from Part 1.

I hope this gives some insight.

Kind regards,

Neil

For those of you which are relying on varieties in Part 2. I think that it is only fair to let you know what is not in the collection.

the following varieties are not in the collection.

Freeman 8, 9, 19, 28, 33A, 39A, 41, 44, 45, 46, 47, 69, 76, 103, 112, 192A, 209, 247. :angry:

8 = 1860 1+D

9 = 1860 2+B

19 = 1861 2+F

28 = 1861 5+G

33A = 1861 6+G 8 over 6

39A = 1862 6+G 8 over 6

41 = 1862 6+G date numerals from 1/2d

44 = 1863 6+G slender 3

45 = 1863 6+G die number 2

46 = 1863 6+G die number 3

47 = 1863 6+G die number 4

69 = 1874 6+I + H

76 = 1874 7+I + H

103 = 1881 9+M + H

112 = 1882 11+N

192A = 1922 3+C

209 = 1933 5+C

247 = 1954 2+C

Yes, I am bored.

Got an email from Neil saying he'll submit my bid when the time comes, so i assume you got the same 1949, so fingers crossed now. Anyone else submitted bids prematurely?

Your son must have a good job Bernie for you to be supplying him with a coin or 2 of these statures monthly, poor lad must have been going to work with holes in his shoes :lol:

Some really nice coins in there, pity i can't afford the more rarer ones unfortunately, but lets hope he gets a good deposit from the collection for his house.

Boy, I would really like to see the 112 (1882 London) penny & see if it is better than the usual slick washer for that date that we usually see.

Some excellent coins in there. Wish my father did the same for me way back then, my son will hopefully appreciate the ones i buy for him 1 day. Never see any like that on ebay, he does say his father bought from there also.

Never seen nor heard of that dot on trident 1922 before

more bun pennies i knew nothing about.. 1862 mules? what?

Hi Scott, the 1862 Penny uses obv J which is the sole used obverse for buns from 1863 to 1873, but there are a handful of 1862 examples with obverse D and obverse E which were used for 1860 and 1861. The 1861s with obv D and E are quite scarce but the 1860s with D and E are common.

Obv D has L.C.WYON on the bust and has the : after G: of D:G: pointing to a border tooth.

Obverse E has the L.C.WYON on the bust too but has the : after G: of D:G: pointing between border teeth, the bust is also much closer to the linear circle.

There are other differences between the obverses but these are the most easily distinguishable marks.

The obverse J is easily spotted with no L.C.WYON on the obverse and the B of BRITT pretty much in contact with the head.

Michael Gouby has listed 15x known 1862 obverse D and only 4x known 1862 with obverse E. So because obverses D and E were intended for 1860 and 1861, the 1862s with these obverses are classed as mules.

Hope this helps

Well, that's actually quite interesting, because it's much harder to see that being a random event.

It is right in the middle isn't it.
