Kipster Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 I saw this on another forum earlier, and wondered if anyone else had seen this? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11886091/British-auction-house-boss-arrested-NYC-fraudulent-sale-worlds-expensive-coin.html https://www.coinworld.com/news/world-coins/authorities-arrest-dealer-repatriate-record-setting-coin 😮 1 Quote
1949threepence Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 Crikey - potentially he's in very big trouble given the amount of monay involved. Although of course, we musn't pre-judge ahead of the trial. There may be many unknown facts yet to emerge. Quote
Nonmortuus Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Yes it was all over the facebook groups as news broke.... be interesting to see what the defence will say! Quote
Taikonaut Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 (edited) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-66594076 The owner Richard Beale pleaded guilty to falsifying provenance. I bought a couple of coins from them in the past all relatively common and nothing super expensive, obviousely I would never know if the provence could be trusted but that goes with other dealers too. TomGoodheart Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 Yes, very disappointing that he persisted with the stories after confronted by the BBC. And does make one (well, me) wonder occasionally about pieces that I've been given minimal provenance for and where they might have come from. Last thing I want is the BM telling me they want something I bought, back for their collections! 1 Quote
