    As well as a 9 I think there was a 7 under there once as there is a pointy bit out of the top right of the 8. I suspect this die might have been recut more than once?

    Interesting - not seen anything like that before although I’ve not looked quite that closely. I’ll take a look at mine but it’ll be next week now. Have you thought of putting it on the World of Coins forum? You might get more response there.

    Sorry, but that's exactly how you come across. Where they are from is irrelevant - other dishonest Europeans are available. Do you think it's inconceivable that a British person could have done the same? Looks like they were never on it in the first place.
