  1. Hi all. A rare variety which is mentioned in the Colin Cooke collection as never having been seen by him in a grade better than good fine. His own coin, which is pictured in the collection, has been graded as fine. Here's the better of two examples I own. Clearly much better than Mr. Cooke's but which I'd personally grade as fine too (or possibly a smidge better). Spink haven't recorded one as being sold above fine for many years. I'd be interested to know if any other forum members have one superior to mine.
  2. Tempted?….. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare-1860-bun-head-penny-good-condition-/141429699515?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item20edddf3bb
  3. I do remember those American Civil War cards! There was a bit of a fuss about them as I remember - rather a lot featured soldiers with blood pouring from open wounds. PG-rated stuff by today's standards. Wasn't there also a 'War Of The Worlds' series equally as "scary"? Did the Civil War packets also include repro and/or fantasy banknotes of the period too? I collected the Batman, Captain Scarlet, Tarzan, footballers too. Also; the cards which came with tea such as 'Trees of Britain', 'Kings and Queens' etc.
  4. Not for me, thanks.
  5. Shouldn't be allowed.
  6. Can we see the ad please Colin? I can't find an online link. I think it may be the first time in my life I've gone searching for the Daily Mail…..
  7. $205.70. Wha?!?!?!
  8. Just received a message from the seller. He is withdrawing the lots.
  9. The same seller has a Henry VIII repro listed too. I've sent a message pointing out neither coins are genuine. Lets see if the descriptions are updated.….

  11. Maybe some sort of guild, lodge, society etc?
  12. Michael Gouby has a 'probably as struck' for £12, and Colin Cooke have one listed as ABU for £8.
  13. Poorly cut and showing part of the beaded border from the next coin on the strip. Unusual.
  14. The same seller has a low grade 1787 shilling on offer with a buy it now price of £75!
  15. From the June issue. Could someone please explain this joke to me?
  16. £22 for a handful of melts? Ridiculous!

  18. I see that ebay example has rather nasty rim damage.
  19. Is this some sort of situationist art scam?
  20. Hello Chris! I look forward to reading your posts and seeing the coins you buy as you build your collection.
  21. Chris! How do you remember all this???? Do you keep a journal?!?! (Just pulling your leg). I've seen most of the bands you have, and quite a lot you haven't mentioned. From your 'wish you'd seen' list: I made a point of catching the Specials whenever they came around. A fabulous live act. From 77 to 80 I was on the permanent guest list at Eric's Club, so saw an awful lot of the acts who were booked there (some I really wish I hadn't!). Also from your wish list, I've seen: Dylan. Buzzcocks. Undertones. Roxy twice (first time when Eno was still with them). The Beat. James Brown. Dylan, Roxy (2nd time), and James Brown were at the annual Summer Pops Festivals which used to be held in a big tent on the Liverpool waterfront. Much as Dylan was great (for the first 15 hours….), he stayed on for so long that my wife and I actually ended up listening to the end of his set from the beer tent next door. James Brown's show was, again, fab but it was the Summer of the 1st Iraq war. When the go-go dancers began waving American flags about lots of the audience began grumbling and several shouted abuse. Good old Liverpool. never disappoints…..
  22. From your list I saw Slade and Pink Floyd. My first live shows were April 71 (I was 12). Rolling Stones and T.Rex, Both within the same week. Around 50p a pop!
  23. Ah. Those were the days….. I was a few years older than you, but yes, 76-77 was a fine time to be around. Never saw the Sex Pistols but I did get to see the Clash a few times. You missed nothing! The most overhyped band of all time, but I do realise it's impossible for anyone from the Punk Generation to be "unMacLarened" You're not wrong!
  24. I think that is true unless you throw in silver threepence. Yet I can't be the only one with a nostalgic view of sixpence's. My mum used to count them out when me and my brother went to the Saturday morning flics. "Sixpence for the bus, sixpence to get in and sixpence to spend. Boy we were hard up. Now I can afford it I should buy a few. LOL. Mark Absolutely! The silver threepenny bit must surely rate as the most unloved coin of all.
